HEAR this:

He's from Portland area.

IIRC, stroker 408. Fender wall-ish headers. 275/40/17 front, 315/40?/17 rear. no interior, manual 16:1 reproduction steering box...

I said screw it and pulled over 36 miles away from home at a gas station to get a tow haha! Waiting for the tow truck now haha

Better safe than sorry!

Ariel, that is strictly incredible. That's guts, that's determination.

No interior, no windshield wipers, race seat with not much padding, race stiff suspension...

Those Hot Rod "Drag Week" cars are p@ssy's compared to what Ariel just did. But ONLY in comparison.

Hey guys I made it back home.

I didn't take the tow truck, the rain let up a little and I just went for it. Was able to make it back in one piece no problems and at least the rain washed all the bugs off the car for me haha!
One of the dumbest things I have ever done in my life but sure makes for a good story haha!

Why didn't you press on to Van Nuys? You were almost there!

Glad to see you made it Ariel! I had to deal with rain snow, washed out lines on the road, definitely some white knuckled driving while towing a trailer! This was before things got bad and the weather was fighting to get over the Sierras.

I had a blast. The Valiant ran well and I stayed out of the dirt! Fast, fun track. Was anybody taking on track pictures and do they have contact info?

Lee, that Dart was fast. I followed him for a lap, got set up to pass him on the straight and couldn't. Dead even drag race up to about 140....

Heres some shots I took.

And a couple of random shots. The Six Pack had driven down from Washington I believe, and the 69 Charger was a matching #'s two owner Hemi Car.

Autoxcuda usually videos the event and the cars on track from a track side vantage point. He'll probably post vids in a couple days or so.

Oh ya, weather was great, I went fishing.

Nice! Takes some strength to have 16:1 manual steering with a tiny steering wheel like that. Sounds awesome!

Was this on the way there or did you go home last night?

Glad to hear it ran well, Brent! Did you run the 2.94s or the 3.23s?

I would love to see video of that drag race.

I have to say that I miss the Valiant right now. I wish I could have gotten it out on track at least once. frown

I left yesterday about 1/2hr after Ariel did. Once he told me it was raining in Concord I knew it would be over the hill soon enough, and I had 8000ft passes to deal with. I hope theres video of the straight away run too! I left the 2:94's in it. 3:23's would have been about perfect for that track.

Be nice to the Drag Week peoples...we have to rebuild transmissions on pic-nic tables and change cam shafts in 7-11 parking lots!

Looking forward to seeing the weight of the different cars....so I'll know how fat mine is.

Sorry, I've been lagging. It's been a really long couple of days and I am beat. Took the Dart through Angeles Crest Highway Wednesday night after a full day of work and school. Pretty fun but took it easy as I was driving an unknown, winding road at night. Plus I had tools in the back. Stayed at a motel that by far had the most uncomfortable sleeping arrangements ever. To think people actually steal pillows from this place.

Got to Willow Springs... Had the driver's meeting, novice school, and went out to race. I only did two run sessions as I didn't want to kill the car and I was machining tires. I spun off course twice at turn 3 during my first session. The second was almost a 3 car pile up but luckily my car rolled off course. That may have been filmed. We'll see if Tim posts it up in a couple of weeks or if it makes it in one of the magazines.

Overall the Dart did great. I did the lunch time drags which was fun. Almost lost to a Ram 3500 because I decided to do an 1/8 mile burnout to make things more interesting. The WOT on the Dart is awesome and she really moves down the straight. Once I hit about 4500 RPM the engine just takes things to a whole new level and kicks you in the butt into overdrive. Basically in 4th gear the car goes from 85... 90... 95... 120!!! I did drag race a Hellcat, he got me slightly off the line and I had to slowly ease into 1st and 2nd so I wouldn't spin the tires. He beat me by a car length or two.

Weight is with 1/4 tank of gas.

Hey Mitch
I use Rustoleum Dark Gray automotive primer. It keeps the metal from rusting away, easy to maintain and cheap to buy haha!

I'm glad that Brent, the Red Brick and everyone else made it home safe!

This is Ed Wogulius's 71 Challenger. 340, 4 spd, t/a hood, aluminum heads, cast iron ex manifolds, full interior, no a/c, power steering car..

Last scale reading pic is with Ed in the car.

That is F/R 56.4%/43.6% weight split w/o driver. (scale is just reading rear percentage)

F/R 55.6%/44.4% weight split w/driver
