wanted some opinions about hp on my engine. it is a .030 over 440 je domed pistons, eagle h-beams, stock crank, 11.0-1 CR, following parts from hughes engines...stage 2 plus heads (2.19 intake w/extra intake porting), hughes 3237 hyd cam (.576 .587 dur @ .50.232 .237, 110 LSA) , 1.6 rockers, performer rpm intake w/hughes porting, 1 7/8 stahl headers and 850 bg gold claw. stage 1 engines from hughes make about 500-550 hp while the stage 2 seem to make 550-600. my motor seems to be a bit different kind of a stage 1 1/2. since the cam has to pull 15'' of vac. so what do ya guys think hp and torque range would be???

The limiting pieces of this plan are the heads and the smallish cam. I understand the need for 15" vac would be for power brakes etc. but it's difficult to go higher given those perameters

well vac is is a rule regulation (15"@900 rpm) but i have seen stage 2 heads do 590 hp with just a little more cam, less rocker and small carb. i guess really it doesnt mater.. i'm happy with the way it runs and am pretty competetive. just wish i could poke it on the dyno.

I think the Hughes dyno is a little on the happy side.I am not knocking them but some of their numbers seem optimistic to me.
I have run their heads, cams, rockers, and port matched intakes and like them a lot.
I have one of their solid cams,1.6 rockers, and port matched intakes on my 496.
If it were not for the ported heads I would have bet lower numbers.Duration=hp if you can move the air.
Try and fine a chassis dyno to tune it on and some pretty close flywheel numbers can be pulled from that.

I would guess about 525hp. My 440 is 10.0 comp with 906 heads I ported myself. I use the MP .557 solid cam and a Holley Street Dominator intake with an 850 DP. My 440 make's about 500 hp going by the car weight and mph. I would think yours will make more hp then mine even though my cam has more duration as you have more comp and most likely better heads then me. Sounds like a nice combo. Ron

wow, small cam?

576 .587 dur @ .50.232 .237, 110 LSA is bigger than my comp xe275hl which is something like 275 duration (230ish@.050) .525 lift, etc. and I thought it was a good sized cam!

i would love to throw my mp .557 or .590 solid in but the guys in that class are spending 10-15k n motors. BTW i know most of you drag race asphalt. this engine in a 4x4 truck that races mud drags (sometimes mud pit). rules are a bit different.
