I have not seen any updates for awhile now. Is the magazine being made and with the awesome previous staff?

So far, I believe I've seen the very first batch of new ones at the local Barnes and Noble. Sunset orange Cuda on the cover.
They are back.

Concerning your Mopar subscription, unfortunately we have temporarily ceased production on this magazine. We are uncertain of the future of this publication at this time. We have not forgot about you, we will be closer to a final decision concerning this matter in about two weeks. Please bear with us, in this process. We thank you for your patience and understanding.

Is this the same magazine where there was a post months ago that said they were "too big to fail" or something like that?

I was thinking that was a death wish that statement. No one is too big to fail. Look at GM and all the American car makers.

Wishing them luck though. luck

Yup must be...search on this website "too big to fail" and you will find the previous thread has been deleted for some reason.

Just bought an issue at Walmart a couple of nights ago. It's published by Athlon Media Group. Looks just like it always has. Gromer is still the editor. In fact in his editorial he says the entire staff is the same (except the publisher).

I decided to go for a subscription to help support the cause, mailed in the form last month, but haven't seen anything yet.

I thought they had the old subscription list and was going to contact the subscribers from before it went out of business?

I picked up a copy at the local Walmart today. Looks to be a good issue. I have been a subscriber from the beginning. I hope it continues on, I sure would miss Ehrenberg's tech articles.

Seems like every single magazine that I subscribe to , ends up on the news stand a week or so before I get it in the mail. I talked to a couple of different managers at Walmart and a local store. They tell me they have no control on what is put on their news stand , the people that stock it have the control. They put stuff out , hoping to sell it , they just don't care about anyone that subscribes , not their part of the business.

Saw this post this morning and just got back from the local BnN. Bought the MA and a railroading magazine. I saw a Mopar Wheeler Dealer but left it there after a brief glance. Reminiscent of the old MCG.

Navigating BnN is a PIA. You literally have to meander around EVERYTHING to get to the checkout. Now I remember why I don't frequent that place anymore.

Isn't that the way it was before? When I subscribed several yrs ago, my copy would show up almost a month after it hit the news stand.

Even though it was more $$$, I just bought mine off the rack rather than wait and wonder if it was ever going to show up.

I'll have to look for the latest this weekend. boogie

It has, I just was hoping because of all the problems this year with the magazine that they would prioritize the the subscribers. I've been a MA subscriber since the early 90's..

I called the publisher today and they stated the current issue would only be available through newsstands only. If you had a previous subscription and/or new they were targeting the February release for mail order deliveries.

Well, guess I'll look around for it then instead of waiting for it to show up.
If the Feb issue also fails to show up in my mail, I won't be subscribing again. I'll just get it off a magazine rack.

Just MHO but the new publisher has no commitment to the previous subscribers.

Harris got into trouble, not athlon.

Just my observation, I emailed the new publisher about the previous subscriptions, which in ten minutes I got a reply that they were on hold. I then asked where I could go to buy one, and again in less than ten minutes they sent a list of around 8 different places I could find one. All I can say is I haven't had that good of customer service in a long time.

The December issue of Mopar Action is on the stands around here. The 3rd part of my 470 engine article made it in there. I wasn't sure it was going to get published since I sent it to MA a while back and then they folded. But looks like the new publisher picked it up and ran it.

Picked it up today at Fred Meyer. Overpaid for it by a lot so I will need to re-subscribe again.

I renewed my subscription earlier in the year and then read on here a few days later that Harris Publishing folded. argue

I picked it up at Books-A-Million at Arundel Mills on Friday. MA used to show up at Giant Food under Harris, but I haven't seen the new one there yet. Looks just like it did under Harris.

I'm one of the lucky folks who renewed right before Harris folded and got one issue for my $35.00. I'd lost track of whether Athlon had gotten the sub list or not.

Anybody know what month the last issue was?

I called MA, and they tell me my subscription expired in August.

How convenient.. whistling

August 2016 was the last issue with Harris as the publisher. The issue out now is December 2016 published by Athlon Media. There was no October issue printed. Is Athlon Media taking new subscriptions now? Be nice if Ehrenberg or Gromer would come on here and let us know whats going on. Still seems to be a lot of confusion going on.

Rick is outspoken to put it mildly. If he has news, it will hit here first. Sometimes it's best to keep a lid on things until you know for certain so as to not stir up controversy and gossip.

Not that there's ever any of that on Moparts...

So... the mag goes belly-up leaving paid subscribers hanging... ok. Then, a new publisher picks it up, but tells the loyal subscribers, sorry go buy one at the newsstand if you want it, while having the audacity to solicit new subscribers... REALLY ??

The new publisher didn't get paid by the old subscribers.....
They would be giving it away for free if they did that.
Subscribers need to go after who they paid.

I let my subscription lapse a few years ago. Seemed like it was becoming highly repetitive with little new of interest other than some of the feature cars.

Flipped through the current issue at the news stand the other day. Seems little has changed from back then... Which I guess is okay for those who are happy with the magazine as it is. But it certainly didn't inspire me to pull 9 bucks out of my wallet.

I let mine lapse as well - for the same reason. I actually started referring to it as "Hemi Action" magazine because ever issue was Hemi this and Hemi that. Blah Blah. I'm a small block guy. Anyway, I saw it on the newsstand at the grocery store over the weekend and decided to buy it on a whim. That was an $8 mistake...either re-vamp it or let it die, I say.

Latest MCG says they laid off Ehrenburg and the rest and are going in a different direction. Whatever that means. Jan 2017 issue "Reading between the lines" page nine.

Sounds like maybe it was a one-and-done deal for the new publisher. The website is turned off.

I'm sure Eberg will pop up somewhere. I switched to Hot Rod Network when MA blew up. It is a better deal for me anyway. Much better website so articles get more eyeballs and they pay better. HR also hosts video which MA refused to do so now I can shoot a video to go along with the article and post it on the website. Couldn't do that before. I was hoping the new publisher would drag MA into the modern era but sounds like something blew up in the process.

Here's the deal, at least as much as I know:

Gromer (editor) got into some kind of ruckus with the new publisher. The upshot: They simply pulled the plug unceremoniously. No one at the publisher will answer any of my phone calls or e-mail -- 100% stonewall.

It appears that they are NOT mailing the current issue to subscribers. I really dislike that because I, personally, was told to tell everybody at the Nats that new and current subscribers would be 100% protected, so this reflects badly on me, but there's not a single thing I can do about it.

The person who made the unilateral decision to kill it is:

AMG Parade:
Tracey Altman, exec. VP (NY)
taltman@amgparade.com
212-478-1916
Cell: 917-626-8027

If you have been screwed or have any other issues, have at it.

I am not at liberty to discuss details yet, but it appears that my tech drivel will be appearing in another print (and online) publication soon.

Thanks,

Rick Ehrenberg

Good job on the contact info Rick. People like that don't want to hear from customers directly as its easier to hide behind a phone or expect someone else to drop the bad news bomb. Maybe this will improve said persons people skills.

What a convoluted mess. I love the magazine and appreciate all their work. What the hell is going on though? Harris publishing just drops them like a hot brick, then the same thing happens again? What are we not being told?

Yes, Harris lost the distribution of the magazines to the stores and then decided to close up shop.

AMG Parade with Tracey Altman, taltman@amgparade.com in charge
Picked up the magazine and was going to continue?

But she had a problem with the web site www.moparaction.com

She wanted parts removed, thought they were "inappropriate" but she did not want to pay to keep any of the site running.

I know Cliff Gromer was trying to keep the web site active, And was not having any luck. Lot of tech and story ideas come from the web site.

That was last I knew when they stopped paying me to maintain the Mopar Action Web Site.

And they took the whole site done a few weeks later.

Now with Rick's update I see Cliff is gone now also down

But the inappropriate stuff was fun and entertaining. She must of thought it was run by a bunch of deplorables.

On a more serious note, Tom what about something here on this site? Make it a paid subscription section and let eberg and Cliff run it?

Honestly I prefer real magazines in the throne room but for their tech and wit I guess I'll have to deal with a tablet.

Tom, any chance you can salvage the tech articles and move them over here. If MA is dead and gone then there shouldn't be any copyright issue.

We'll get it up somewhere for sure. Too much useful info to flush! I'm thinking maybe where I land they'll want it, or Tom can host it, I have also secured a new site: moparaction.net . Might be MIA for a few weeks but it will be back for sure. Unfortunately moparaction.com has been registered thru 12/2017.

A few "what do you call a hundred lawyers at the bottom of the ocean?" worries, but I think we can sneak past them.

Well if AMG closed down Mopar Action their accountants will make them write down any assets which would include the copyright on the tech articles. So someone should be able to buy the legal rights pretty cheap. Or a person could just publish the stuff on the assumption that someone who has closed the magazine doesn't care about the content. Abandoned assets or something like that....

There's lots of legal angles to this. They certainly own the page layouts and so forth, but I am led to believe that both they and Harris paid me only for "rights of first insertion" (no wisecracks, please), and that I still own 100% the photos and text (technically I was never an employee, always a freelancer), but since nobody at AMG will talk to me, I need to CMA. They have almost unlimited financial HP.

Since you were a contract employee it probably rests on what your contract with MA said. Knowing MA there probably wasn't a written contract so it boils down to what Cliff would say under oath. I'm sure he would say something along the lines that "Eberg retained all rights to his words and his photos, we just paid him for a one time use in the magazine". That would be backed up by the fact that you were allowed to publish the Tech Article CD's.

I re-upped at The Nats and had to buy the December issue at B&N.
So there was a January issue printed?
Wth is up with the new publisher?
I liked the old mag just fine, with great tech and politically incorrect humor.

Did the same here. Told wife what happened and I figure my money is gone. Oh well. I liked both Mopar Action and Mopar Muscle. They each did certain things well and the contrast in writing styles was welcome. Made getting two magazines worth while.

Understood. Both my friend Ray and myself were not previously subscribers in the last year to MA. We were subscribers years ago. When we heard the magazine was in trouble we wanted to support it and both of us signed up for subscriptions at the MoPar Nationals. Neither has received a single issue and after reading this entire thread it certainly looks like we won't be receiving any issues. Both Ray and myself assumed we were signing up with the new publisher. So basically they just took our money and totally ripped us off by cancelling the magazine. I didn't even get a receipt. Neither did Ray. I thought that was weird at the time but I did get a t shirt. I guess it turned out to be a very expensive t shirt!

Well, I guess I am down to one Magazine. MCG has really turned me off in recent years so I dropped that and now MA is gone so all I am left with is MM.

I tell you one thing. NEVER AGAIN will support any kind of magazine that is in a start up phase or doesn't have a some sort of history of stability. True anything can happen just as some subscribers didn't get their full subscriptions from Harris but at least they got part of it. I got absolutely nothing except a crummy t shirt.

In case anyone is interested I did email the lady on the preceding page. I got a response that said they are trying to rectify the situation and if they do indeed pull the plug totally anyone who subscribed with them will get a refund. I would paste their response here but I am on my iPad and it won't let me copy and paste. So maybe there is some hope for MA?

I renewed for a TWO year INTERNATIONAL subscription just before Harris went belly up frown So that was something like $80 down the drain (can't remember the actual number off the top of my head). I think I got one issue.

Regardless, if MA resurfaces in whatever from, with Rick involved, I'll be in, even if I get no credit. Always loved his tech articles, including when he was at HPM (yes, remember!), and back in those days, with no internet and living in the UK, that right there was my tech input. Still have all the mags.

I'm wondering if we can get the entire Harris run on CD/DVD or in a downloadable format. I'd volunteer my collection but I'm not the best at keeping them in good shape, but I would pay for all the issues in one digital format or another. -BD

Still hoping to see more MOPAR ACTION magazines.... E/SPecially articles written by the old great staff... Rick, Cliff, and all the other writers. even if it changes names to some other Mopar magazine.

I'm trying to buy copies of the August 2006 issue which featured my T/A (and best friend John Sandberg's AAR)... even though I'd bought about 75 past issues (from the publisher/Harris), I want more which I've generously given to close friends, etc... at my expense. I wish the article was pdf available... as many people want that article.

Good luck to all the past MA staff... Rick, Cliff and all.

I'm in a similar boat to you Mitch, I keep my eyes pealed for April 2005 Mopar Actions with my article on IDing original Mopar master cylinders.
I bought a copy of your month's issue off eBay recently, I'm sure I had it already but couldn't find it, so bought another.
Snoopy here on the board some years back helped me make a PDF of my article, even improved the article a bit by changing a couple pictures in the article out for better ones I supplied and correcting a casting number that got printed wrong in the article to the correct one. up
Anyone interested, send me an email, my address is in my profile, and I'll reply with the PDF copy of the master cylinder article.

I got ripped for a 2 years subscription that I paid up for several years back. Received an issue or 2 and then no more. No doubt those in control at the time knew that I would not be receiving what I had paid some 30 or 40 bucks for.

Maybe Rick can collect Tony DeFeo and High Performance Mopar magazine can be reborn? My favorite feature used to be the "Run What Ya Brung" articles, and I think the recurring trans guy was Frank Lupo. Whatever happens, I hope the crew lands on their feet.

Anyone here any updates on Mopar Action publication? The last I heard was the December, 2016 issue would not be available by mail (news stand only). I believe February, 2017 would have been the next publication. I have not checked the news stand recently.

I have not received anything in the mail to date.

I recommend that people take a look at Car Craft. Lots of Mopar content going into CC these days, the May issue is almost all Mopar. You can buy an online subscription for just a few bucks.

YES, it is official, there is going to be a next issue of Mopar Action, Most likely Oct publication

Cliff and Rick are still there with a new Editor

From what is understood if you subscribed with the new company you will get the issue.

On the left over subscriptions from Harris ? Will have to wait and see

Is this a new publisher or just a repeat of news from a couple months back?

Seems the publisher then wanted to uh edit the editors...

I liked the snarky and sometimes locker room talk.

I re-subscribed to MCG just so I had some Mopar in the mail to look forward to. I like it for the most part, but my only real gripe is no tech articles. I feel MCG is geared more towards older guys with multiple car collections who pay to have their cars done, or just buy them already done.

MA tech had low budget tips and tricks, and also the latest in transmission and engine swaps, ect. For a bi-monthly magazine they covered a lot of ground.

YES, it is official, there is going to be a next issue of Mopar Action, Most likely Oct publication

Cliff and Rick are still there with a new Editor

From what is understood if you subscribed with the new company you will get the issue.

On the left over subscriptions from Harris ? Will have to wait and see

If you subscribed last year at the Nats would that be with the new company?

I question why anyone would expect that a publisher who acquired the rights to a title would be responsible for the commitments made by a previous owner. It's not like they bought a company with all it's assets and liabilities.

They are going to have to publish a bunch of copies per month to attract any advertising dollars.
I think the momentum is gone. I don't even go to the newsstand anymore. It was a force of habit, MM became pretty bad, MA held some interest for me but now they've been gone so long I won't even be investigating the new issues when they come out.

I'll purchase them at the stands for now when I see them. MM has been lame again since there is no competition. They were all great when you had MA, MM, High Performance Mopars, Chrysler Power before Rolands [may he rest in peace] passed away, MCG and I'm sure I missed at least one. I have most of them in storage bins. They all had some smoking articles going every month/issue. Once they started dying off, the content started going downhill except with MA and E-Booger.

With Mopar Muscle, I keep seeing what appears to be AMD sponsored articles on metal replacement. I know that many of these cars need that but there are hundreds of other topics they could work with instead of a series of abbreviated articles on basically the same thing every month. Have they ever tackled anything dash/electrical related? LED light conversions? Seat reupholstering like MOPAR ACTION does?

New publisher responded to my email stating they would be honoring the subscription, will be interested to see if that actually happens....

Agree on the AMD ads masquerading as articles, getting really old.

I've gotten no replies from the original publisher about refunds (despite sending in my claim forms).

Further, I haven't recvd any notifications of MA coming out again. I watch the local news-rack but that's typically over-crowded. I just want to subscribe... much easier.

I hope to see MA again... was always the best of all!!!

Is this a question?
If so, why not use a QUESTION MARK ???

I was surprised to receive the new issue in the mail. They are a very good company to honor the Harris subs...they sure wouldn't have to! I will definitely subscribe.

If you only asked two questions, why did you use four question marks?
