My feelings exactly. If you want a cowl hood, get a Chebby.

I'm ordering a new hood from Glasstek tomorrow and I would like some honest opinions please.
4" cowl. 6 pack. 68 Hemi scoop. Or order a flat hood and keep my scoop.
First of all ...why a new hood ?
And is the scoop choice going to be based on looks or performance? What is the engine/intake/carb combo? .. how fast is the car? ... do you know where the "good-air" IN on the car?

My last front end got demolished. I went with a steel nose this time. Not worried about air or anything. its a slow bracket car. going for looks.

I would go with a cowl myself.

Chris, I have always been an admirer of your Cuda so I really liked the old look but I guess a Cowl hood would look pretty good on there too. Can't go wrong a car that looks as good as yours. I just finished making my new cowl hood (see below). Hope to see ya at the track this year.

I'm a Cowl fan, mine is a Glasstek 4 3/4" Cowl. I've had it on for about 6 years.

Jim, That cowl looks sharp on your car!! The cuda has a 70 grille this year and I'm putting real head lights and driving lights in it. I want to get away from the full out race look. Hey just wondering what ever happened to your charger?
Thanks, I really had to do another hood cuz my scoop got damaged when the hood flew off last year.
The Charger got sold to a guy in Australia and he turned around and sold it for double what I sold it to him for. He sold it with the numbers matching engine and kept the 493" I built for it. Here is a picture of it with the 493" I sold with it, racing down under. BTW, I do miss that car....

Here's my suggestion to attempt to prevent another Z28 hood scoop going on a beautiful mopar worthy of much more. Use a mopar AAR cuda scoop, you can extend it to the windshield and close the front opening if you need to. Oh and there are SS/AH cars going much faster than 135 using a huge front opening scoop, you have to install the hood and scoop correctly of it will fail, the installation is the problem not the scoop design. The car in the far lane has an AAR scoop that has been raised and looks good and is not a Z28 scoop. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mE1pVr2dkRE&feature=channel_page

go with the cowl!!! ignore the petty argument that cowl hoods belong only on C**** cars becasuse they were the first to have them. cars that were the first to ever have bucket seats were not Mopars, yet the naysayers have bucket seats in their Mopars..isn't that sacrilegious??? BTW, i have a '68 superstock scooped hood, AND a 4" cowl hood for the Dart.

Go w/ the cowl hood. I have a Glasstek 5" cowl hood on my cuda and love it. Glasstek will make them in any height you want. CHIP

I think you'll really like Glass-tek's cowl, I like it better than others I've seen, mostly how natural it looks on the car as they gradually bring in the cowl from the very front of the hood, I see others that don't start until 6 to 9 inches in and the ramp up real steep and I don't like those.
FYI, mine is a 4 3/4 not a 4. The didn't make a 4 when I bought mine and the next step was 6 and I thought that would be too much. But with my 3" air cleaner it just rubs on the bottom of the hood.

Hello everyone,
I just want to say thank you for all your opinions! I ended up going with a 4" cowl from glasstek. It's the same as Wade Metzingers.
It's not a big deal if it doesnt turn out the way I'd like it to because I still have the hood scoop to go back to.
Hope you don't mind me asking but, How much did it end up being? including shipping etc. You can PM me if you want, I am going to get a 6" cowl for the Challenger soon.

Mine has the extended 6" cowl scoop from glasstek and it fits the lines of the car nicely. I originally bought the 8" scoop and it didn't look right (See DT's pic), mostly because of the ramp in the front. Also, with the 8" I wouldn't have been able to see the bottom of the tree in the left lane. The 6" starts at the front of the hood, the rise looks right, and there is enough room for a TR too. Good Luck
That's the one I ended up getting. It's defintly a long cowl.

I had an areo scoop and switched to a cowl because of class rules. Because I have a sheetmetal intake an 8"cowl was the only one that would fit.I didn't want it at first because its hard to see the tree in the left lane, but it gets a lot of attention on a yellow duster and I'm getting used to it now! I just bought the harwood scoop and my brother molded and painted it. Much cheaper than buying a complete hood.the cowl would look good on your car.
