Here are the lower control arms. You can see the inspection paint daubs and the corrosion shows evidence of the cosmoline line.

Here are the lower control arms, and sway bar brackets after soaking in evaporust, much better than blasting. Stamped parts appear etched after bead blasting, rust removing chemicals are more suited for parts they aren't heavily rusted/pitted. Cast grey paint is much better suited for cast metal parts not stamped steel parts. This way shows a truer representation of how the parts were from the factory

Some FYI the AC Delco lower control arm bushings are not concentric/centered...ie junk

I discovered a product by Eastwood called Exo-Armour, and decided I'd give it a shot. It claims to be exremely durable and good to 2000 degree's (I want to try it on exaust manifolds) it's only 4oz but covers an amazing amount of stuff when brushed on with a foam brush
VIDEO

I'm also experimenting/testing cosmoline replication for fun
Note how small the Eastwood bottles are, it easily covered the parts laid out here

I will probably paint the disc brake shields black. If the 72 units will fit the 73 parts I'll eventually swap them.

Additionally the reproduction front end boots shown here deteriorated in mere months in my garage... be careful

Don't mind my backwards ball joints oops, they are just loosely assembled to keep things tidy for now

The upper control arms and K frame are at the powder coaters and that's my main hold up right now. They have a 3 week backlog.

Thanks, the bar is set pretty high around here.

I just think I was lucky to have scored and kept a decent solid example many years ago and that it's making me look better at what I'm doing laugh2 . Years ago blasting would have been my best option, today it's different.

Thanks Buddy coming from you that means allot (have you all seen Brent's Duster Resto? resto link )
Tonight I picked up my powder coating, it's a perfect semi gloss finish (the flash made it look shiny)

I then stopped by my buddy"s body shop... always something to see in there.

From there I went to pick up an A body trans for Johnny Da Goat

Then I fixed a tire ahhhhh, and my Rock auto parts arrived the Moog bushings are ok and I got a balljoint boot

The battery spray can produce a good result or a more red result depending on your application. I did have some dark spots replicating runs but this shot shows that it can look very much like cosmoline.

Those are my original bump stops cleaned up.
This shot also shows the powder coat shade of black a little better

Saw these in-person just a wee bit ago, they truly look great. Maybe I should pull mine back off....

I'll get with you Bob on the color combo.

Thanks.

Here's a during shot, the strut and lower arm are still loose pending ride height adjustment per the factory manual.

I hope to work on it again this weekend.

Although it's been upgraded I try to keep as stock of an appearance as possible using OEM parts whenever possible. Those are even my original factory bump stops, 3 of mine were mint and I replaced one with another mint original. I even have all of the original 3 point castle nuts on my tie rod ends and one ball joint. (Anyone have some spare ball joint castle nuts?)

That's the original red paint showing, it has been over shot with some black sometime during it's life. I will remove it as/if I can over time.

Thanks Brent

All, here's a heads up, if you are also waiting on EBC brake pads don't hold your breath... there's apparently no real ETA in sight, maybe November? Really? Don't you think a customer might want to know that if they are ordering these? Maybe notify the said paying customer it's back ordered? Nahhhh if the customer cares then they can call and ask flame Thanks Summit. down

So I could have said skip it long ago and bought a set of premium pads (probably Chinese) locally? Instead I'll do that now after waiting like an fool. I'll say it again today most products and vendors don't meet the expectation

Now this.... the only pads I could find don't fit. PLEASE SOMEBODY HELP ME. it can't be this hard to simply buy a brake pad that should be very common. The pads area of interference measures 4.63' and needs another .050 to clear the caliper. The pads are Autobone p/n D39

The car is finally about ready, I just bought Raybestos pads, installed the pads, lines, calipers and swapped over the Master cyl studs, bled everything etc etc etc and greased etc etc.....

OK now how cool is this. My oldest and youngest's Dart Rallye's with the blackout grilles (well they're my car's really $$ laugh2 ) they are the one's who wanted them I swear I had nothing to do with either selection I SWEAR. And this is what I see when I look at them.....

I was PMed and asked what some of the previously shown paints were so:

On the control arms I used Krylons 1307 battery protector spray it dries like a paint. It's not the tacky coating some of us used to know. With just a practice run on a similar metal and you'll know how to achieve the effect you want. The other paints were what I experimented with at first.

Krylon stained glass (9035 Canary yellow) for the yellow, which I found at Hobby Lobby.

The Copper color is Dupli-Colors (MC205 ORANGE ANODIZED) METALCAST anodized surface color system (just a paint) and I bought it at a Napa paint store.

Here we go again, getting set to install fuel injection. Installing it all so that it can be undone/returned to stock in an afternoon.....OEM tank is still clean but vents were plugged. I will save it for restoration. I'm currently cleaning any NM dirt or light surface rust from the rear frames in and will coat/protect before installing the tank. Note the rements of the tank pad on the original tank are not original

For anyone concerned with their cars originality and drilling holes CHECK THIS OUT (note there there's no washer bottle)

Here is the Fi Tech Command center mounted using the existing factory holes for the vapor canister bracket to mount the Fi tech command center brackets. I used a rubber gasket sheet I bought at Home Depot to make insulating gaskets for under the braket and washers to protect the paint. I drilled one center hole in the lower braket to match the car. Sine the upper bracket will keep the unit stable, the unit will help keep the lower bracket stable with only one bolt... it works
