Do as I suggested earlier and mill a recessed area around the port for the plates to sit in. shruggy That's probably more expense then what you want to spend though. My father-in-law has a mill in his garage. I've thought about having him do what I suggested. It would be pretty easy to do. Then if the plates sit a little lower then the flange, you could smear some high temp silicone over them. That might insulate them from the heat and extend their life expectancy.

Is there a reason NOT to simply use the Fel-Pro 1215 pan that has the ports blocked off? That's what I've been doing for over 20 years.

I would just redo the weld job on the intake manifold.
I usually set the piece to block off the flow below the sealing surface and have it welded in there. That way when/if the manifold gets milled most of the weld remains untouched.

Kinda difficult to make that fit a small block I'd guess?

On my LA's I just fill the crossover port about 1/2" in the intake with JBWeld. Never had a problem.

They say there is always the exception that proves the rule.
Don't be the exception.

LOL! yes, I have a small block and that valley pan wont fit

It's got a cop motor, a 440 cubic inch plant, it's got cop tires, cop suspensions, cop shocks. It's a model made before catalytic converters so it'll run good on regular gas.
