What are the downsides of having too much seat pressure with a hydraulic cam?
Is 160#s too high for seat pressure running a hydraulic cam?
thanks

I don't know how much is too much, but I have always followed the 90-120 lbs seat pressure for hydraulic lifters. The open pressure is a concern too.

It depends on the type of hydraulic lifter. 160# on seat with a conventional hydraulic lifter is asking for problems.

If you are looking to run that kind of spring pressure on a cast cam, you had better look into the Shubeck style puck lifters. I am a dealer for them, they are now a great product when used as designed. If you would like any more information, please call or PM me.

I have several motors with 150 to 175 lbs on the seats and 360 to 375 lbs over the nose with Comp Cams hydraulic lifters, I shift them at or above 6600 rpm at the track. Both motors work well and I have not seen any adverse effects from those pressures BTW, I do use around .012 to .015 lifter preload cold so
