Hey,

So I have been wondering, what is the best way to vent the crank case on a street strip car? I have a solid cammed 493 street/strip engine. Right now I am running a breather on one side and a pcv on the other. Are there better ways to do it?
Dual breathers?
Crank case evac using the headers?
Vacume pump?

Thanks alot

The best way to do it is the vacuum pump. This is not the cheapest nor easiest, however. Header evacs don't work very well with full exhausst and not at all with flowmasters.

You would be better off to use a vac pump on the
street... with a exhaust system it would have to
be a VERY low restriction to allow a header vac to work

I dont recall what the restriction is on all of the
assorted muffs but the lower the restriction the better
the evac will work. A evac will pull about 5" hg
max and for every in hg that your exhaust has it
will lower the evac value

I was having problems with vc gaskets pushing/splitting..... I was running a PCV and breather then.... dont know how much that mattered though... i hope the header evac helps my new engine setup.. how much does the vac pump pull... how much HP do you get out of the header evac vs the vac pump...

its recomended to pull 12"-15" of vacuume with the pump. It can pull more but you shouldnt with a wet sump. The header evac will only pull about 5". Power gains..... not to sure about the header evac, but the vacuume pump can pick you up some serious power. I have heard of 40+HP gains

Im not saying expect to see 40HP, but they do add some power. A complete kit can set you back a grand

2" tti's w/3" tti x-pipe system and ultra flow mufflers.

I have the same exhaust set-up and have the evac kit sitting on the shelf, but I am very scared to try it!

All I can say is try it, if it fails cap off the
nipple in the headers with a pipe cap

I ran a Moroso evac on my Cuda with the blower. I had 2" Super Comps and 3" exhaust that exited right in front of the rear wheels and used the Bullets. The evac didn't work for me. Among other internal problems, I had valve cover and oil pan gasket leaks..I haven't figured out what I want to do with the Dak. It has 2" fenderwell headers,3" exhaust pipe and Bullets. Exits in front of the rear tires.. Kinda coincidental here.. The gaskets are seeping a little. I may pull the engine and install new gaskets before the tracks open..

When you decide to quit, THAT is the moment when you would've succeeded..

Put a vac/pressure combo gauge on the engine. If you
are making pressure you either give it more venting
(breathers) or put a vac pump on it.... of course
this is if the engine isnt messes up inside like
broken rings

Wedge
If you pull the breather off the valve cover and
rev it up a few revs you should feel it on your hand
(sucking), if its not working you will feel it blowing
on your hand(this is the part with the hose on it)
also if its broken/failed the air will be hot(exhaust)

My setup ; raised breathers with baffled valvecovers and baffled tubes.
