Is it normal for torsion bars to have a slight bend? Are they perfectly straight from the factory? Heres a pic of mine.

I've seen a couple over the years have a slight arch to them. I don't think it has ever hindered their performance. Is the adjustment the same left to right?

Does use or abuse cause them to bend?

Thanks John. I appreciate the offer. Id like to stick with these if i can because these are thicker 340 bars and work decent for a street driver. If it was race only id use the six bars from ya. up

Not really... just being wound up all the time... if you
bottom out a lot it adds to it... but being a spring and
twisting them they tend to move around... I seen plenty
of them like that when I was on the transverse T-bar project
when I was building up the mule cars(taking all the stock
stuff off the cars to set them up for our stuff)

I used to own a 95 Dakota 4x4 5-speed. I was told a previous owner used it as a field truck.(farmer) Someone must have tried driving over a stump/large rock because the torsion bar x-member was badly damaged. The x-member was bent...pushed back. Both torsion bars had a noticeable bend in them. They still functioned and didn't break.

I can't figure how those bars would ever get bent. They are mounted on an even plane and rotate on the same plane. Even sitting, there isn't any weight or force that should cause them to bend. My car sat for over 30 years and the bars haven't bent.

That said, I bought a "set" from a member on here a few years ago and one was bent. Checking the numbers, they were both for the same side. I can only guess that the one that was bent had been installed on the wrong side and that caused the bend.

The ONLY difference is the way they are PRE loaded... we would
wind up the bars to get a pre known set to them.... they all
started out the same... the hexes were all the same.. when you
pre load them they in up with a set... that would dictate which
bar went on what side of the car... thats all there was to it..
and I seen them have them have a slight bend in them new... it
didnt matter at all
EDIT
The reason for the pre load was for warranty.. without
the preload the cars would settle lower after a short
period of time... so we started pre loading all the bars

Just went out and looked at a set of /6 .830 bars I have and a set of .870 340 bars I took out of my dart. Both sets are preloaded, but I didn't see any bows in them.
