My wife showed me on Aol that FCA is considering building a full size SUV based on the Ram 1500 chassis to compete with the Tahoe and GMC . I think it might make a good tow vehicle. It said possible late 2018 production. Might be good with the Eco diesel or Hemi , what do you guys think? The article also stated a possible mid size truck also, return of the Dakota?

A modern ramcharger! I would love one but would probably go with a dakota and a 5500 for my farm related duties

They been talking about it ever since the original ramcharger went away, that was right about the time the SUV market went nuts and dodge has missed out on it for over 20 years.

When the "new" Ram came out in 94, I saw photos and read a brief article about a Suburban-type Ram that had a great name like Intimidator (or something like that). I was stoked back then as the Suburban was the only game in town. Dodge decided not to do it (and build the Pacifica instead!) and Ford jumped in as GM's only competitor.

If they actually do it, I'll be right there looking at one, as my Suburban is nearing the 200k mark...

While not 100% the same, they did have an interim full-size SUV, just not a 2-door:

Durango was never full sized, and still isn't. It's not small, but it's not full sized.

If the new Durango isn't full size at 7000lbs, I'd hate to see the weight of a full size SUV!! I was shocked at the weight of the wife's Durango, as it was almost the same weight as my diesel truck.

We looked at the new Durango's when buying a new vehicle for my wife. I too was shocked when I found out the weight. We ended up with a Compass instead lol

My point exactly which is why I dropped the picture in. Regardless of how it is rated (Mid-size is doubtful), they are also physically larger than most "full-size" SUVs on the market.

7000 lbs? Are you sure that isn't the GVWR? Is that weight from a scale?

Appears the 7000 lbs is the GVWR (7100 actually) on some models. Per FCA, the lightest Durango is 4750 lbs (RWD V6 SXT) and the heaviest is just shy of 5400 lbs (AWD V8 Citadel). Not lightweights by musclecar standards but pretty decent by modern standards. If a full size SUV is built it definitely wouldn't be body on frame, it would be a unibody for sure. No need for body on frame, it's unecessary heft and weight. I'm guessing we'll soon see 1500 series trucks with unibodies from all 3 Domestic's
