The posi unit in my 742 case needs to be replaced. Any recommendations on brand posi assemblies? I believe the Auburn brand was suggested, but I wanted to see if anyone has other recommendations.

Myself I went with the Detroit Locker and I like it alot for my street/strip car. Many say its to noisey for them. I have not used the Auburn unit but some will pop in and post that have used it to give you an opinion. Ron

I run a clutch type sure grip in my 8.75 and am happy with it (>10 years and road track time). I would recommend a similar unit from Dr Diff. Its called "Powr-Loc". The clutch type is rebuildable if/when needed.

I believe the Auburn is a cone type which is OK for mild daily driving but would not take much hard use.

My bud had an Auburn and it broke after only a few trips to the strip. It was a street car that he raced on Mopar days at the motorplex. He contacted Auburn and they said they had problems from that unit and if he would send them his receipt, they would send him a new upgraded unit. He bought it new but from a swap meet so he was out of luck. I sold him a used 68 OEM with new clutches and he has not had any more problems. I'd call dr diff and buy a new one from him based on the OEM 68 design with clutches.

To the OP, if it's a clutch-type unit you can just rebuild it as opposed to replacing it.

If it's the original sure grip it's a clutch type and if it isn't broken it is rebuildable , contact Dr. Diff for the clutches and one piece side gears.

Don't get an Auburn, it's a cone type and cone types are GARBAGE by design, it WILL fail, has no warranty, and is not rebuildable.

True track seems like a good unit ... ASSUMING Eaton puts it together right , but the jury is out on that .

Detroit Locker is a good unit/design , you can get lighter springs to make it more street friendly , but it will click when turning.

running up my post count some more .
