i have a 489 center section with 3.55 gears but its an open diff. i have a 741 centersection with a good limited slip diff, with a bad set of gears, is it possible to swap the 741 limited slip into the 489 centersection? is there anything special about doing it?

Yes but use the side bearings for the sure grip. Sure grips are interchangable between cases. Swap the ring gear and set the back lash and run it. remember the ring gear bolts are left hand thread.

Clean it, if it's Dirty. Oil it, if it Squeaks. But: Don't fix it, if it Works!
