Yes, they are called "Sidewinders" same casting sold by Todd at Moparts Racing, Hughes, CPPA and ProMaxx.

i've read that they have a very nice facility in Alabama that does the finish work.

NO NO NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!does not equal Promaxx or Sidewinder!!!

The Speedmaster heads are the ProComp heads, ProComp changed their branding about two years ago. It's no secret, ProComp announced it back then.

The Sidewinder and I believe Promaxx and probably some other names, are better heads from a different Chinese facility. The owner has actually been on this board to explain that.

But the way the marketplace works is that you get online and you can order up a pallet or container or sometimes as few as one pair of quite a few different heads from China, they're not hard to find. When they get here you can call them whatever you can program a CNC machine to spell. Or possibly buy enough and get a custom label cast into the heads.

I believe you can even buy replacement Cummins 6BT blocks.

Anyway, just be aware that ProComp is now called Speedmaster. Most of the part numbers are even the same starting with a PC.

R.

Hughes is selling them as Speedmasters, they sure do look the same as the Sidewinders..

Look at the outside edge on the deck surface below the outer row of head bolts, there are two notches on the corner on the sidewinder and not on the procomp. That is the easy quick way to see if you are getting the good one or the junk

I'll take your word for it as I haven't seen either up close, but gosh there sure do look the same. Could you point out this notch, because i'm not seeing it.

Sidewinders

Speedmasters

Also it has been established the PROMAXX Head is the same as the Sidewinder head, never was the Speedmaster or Procomp brought up

Quote:
What I woul like to say is Promaxx 440 head and Todd Sidewinder head are very nice casting and accurate machining. The material is A356.2, elements such as Fe, Ti, Mg, and Si was under control. Which help the aluminum have better microstructure and lead to better physical performance such as hardness, elongation. The advantage of the casting is the intake and exhauste port are very smooth. Much smoother than RPM heads. Because the casting is using special fine sands in intake and exhaust port. The machining is using modern technology with 4 axises CNC machines. The combustion volume, the position tolerance was under strict control. The machine tolerance is 3/1000 mm. There is someone do it better, it's AFR. AFR tolerance is 1/1000 mm in key positions. In a words, the heads were made by OE standards with is same as GM present cylinder heads production standard. Both Promaxx and Todd is doing great job to make the better 440 cylinder head better. More people try it, more people will be happy."

So it looks like speedmaster uses either of the cheap castings. Those are the same as the sidewinder, this is the other cheap casting

Even easier way to tell em apart is the heart shaped chamber in the pro-comp or as it is labeled in this pic a "speedmaster".
