That sounds about right. I measured and cut mine on a lathe. Pressed in the cup and the pushrod split. Been par for all my Indy 'stuff'. Ordered Smith Brothers today. Manton is good too.

I found even Smith Bros. tough to press on the ends. There was up to .002" interference in the press fit. We froze the cups/ball ends and lightly pre-heated the tube ends, and they went together much easier.

Damn! I dropped my change.............

If you`re not capable of precisely cutting and pressing those I wouldn`t bother. Get a stock p-rod and cut it in half and install a piece of all-tread and make a p-rod checker or buy a p-rod checker and put the cam on the base circle and measure w/the lash where your gonna run it.

That sounds like a pretty slick process. I asked Indy if they had any suggestions and the response was just add a little oil and press them in. Well, had to get new ones.

Thanks for the advice.

We use many diffrent processes for installing the pushrod ends. Many time we have to run a ream through the heavy wall hemi pushrods we get from Indy and also put a slight champhor to help get the end started. We also have different length aluminum mandrels with holes for the push rod to keep it from flexing or bending. We use an aluminum seat pad for the finished end to set in and an aluminum pad at the cup end.We use a small aluminum(home built)press frame and small hydraulic puck cylinder with hand pump.It works great for us.Once we determine the proper length we rough cut the excess on the saw and do our final cut to size, champher and ream on the lathe.

when pushing cup in the rod make sure this is no bur . Best to lathe cut them and champher, cooling cup in the freezer or heating pushrod to about 400 degrees F on the end with a bearing heater also works well
