I am looking at buying another race car.
I dont have an enclosed trailer.
I am wondering if anyone knows how to cover an open one?
I am hoping someone has some good ideas.

If your not starting the build(making a enclosed trailer)
dont bother, you would most likely exceed the value
of the axles and tires. Get a car cover for it and
tie it on tight(thoose things flapping around can
mess up a nice paint job
EDIT
And go on a nice day

I would be concerned any covering ( car cover,,etc ),,would ruin the paint while towing it, unless you could "shrink wrap" it,,,ie,,keep it real tight so it doesnt flap around..

anyone local that could help you with an enclosed,,,,?
good luck....

Wrap it in plastic and wrap the plastic with duct tape. Like the old saying goes about dirty woman, "Son wrap it tight" applys to wraping a car.

I have heard some bad horror stories about the cover thing also.
I dont think i will cover the car, it has a nice paint job on it.
And no i dont think there is anyone who i can ask locally.
I hate borrowing other peoples stuff, but that might be what this comes down to.

So you guys are talking about basically shrink wrapping the car?
Would this not scratch it?
I am not sure i could get it tight enough, so it would not come loose.
I am going from ohio, to michigan, and there is tons of salt on the road.

any places nearby that shrink wrap boats??

other than that, Id leave it open, make sure theres some real decent flaps on the tow vehicle too.

I made a setup that slides over my ball mount that has two big truck mudflaps that go right to the ground. Sure it looks stupid and ugly, but I use it even with my enclosed to help with rock dings and whatnot. It helps things stay cleaner.

my open has an air dam and that helps...otherwise I would say give it a good wax job...will keep crap from sticking and make it easier to clean..

yeah its that shrink wrap stuff....I also tried the car cover then wrapping it tight with that shrink wrap...then duct tape to keep it from unraveling

The boat thing is a good idea. I wonder what they charge for that?
I need to make sure that there are good mudflaps also!

I moved my stock 32 plymouth 1500 miles across the county on a open trailer in a ice storm with salt all over the roads before a left I went to home depot a bought 4 cans of wd40 and covered everything body wheels bumpers bottom etc. it was kind of a pain to wash off when I got home but even bare metal parts did not get rusty

I thought about that also.
I want to get it this sunday, but i want to be home for the superbowl.
I would have to leave my house at 7AM and leave his
house by 4PM. I would also have to drop the hammer
in the truck, and hope the old county mounties are watching someone else.

What ever you do, don’t tow if the road surface is wet. As you know the roads in Ohio have a lot of salt on them this time of year. The salt spray will be sucked up under the car. Don’t ask me how I know.

that is interesting. I am glad that it worked for you! I will give that some thought.

If you were closer,,,i would offer to help get it for you in my enclosed,,,

If you end up using an open trailer, and it's an open deck(between the wheels), bolt plywood down so nothing splashes up under the car.

I bought a nice car last November. I looked at it on a sunny day, but couldn't get it home that day. The guy I bought it from brought it up two days later in a snow storm on an open trailer But, he didn't charge me the SIX HOUR tow

DONT use a cover....Spend that money at the car wash instead when you get it home. The cover will tear up the paint. Just tow it and clean it once you get to your destination.

When I sold my Blown Cuda to a guy in Minnesota we left to deliver it on 1 January on an open trailer. Drove through rain, Ice storm, snow and a little sun. The car was no worse for wear upon arrival. It was dirty but nothing a local stop at the car wash could not handle.

I mean what are you gonna do if you buy it and one day get caught in a freak spring or fall storm? Hide under an underpass until it stops? I towed my old Duster with an open trailer all over the country for a couple of years. Never got so dirty it could not be washed off..

I hear ya. I think I am going to take my open trailer.
I probally wont be able to get for a couple of weeks,
but i dont think that it really matters.
hopefully by then the weather will be a little nicer.
My trailer if a full steel deck, i was worried about the crap getting underneath the car.
I will probally just hope it doesnt get dirty,
and go directly to the car wash at home.
Thanks again for everyones help!

I priced them out, and they are hard to find here,
and they didnt have one big enough.
It would cost me almost $150 for the small one.
But that is a good idea. Thanks!

Thanks for the offer Sunroof.
Noone missed anything. I am in the process of buying
a Dart. I am trying to finalize the deal. I wanted
to figure out my transportation first.
I should have took the trailer with me last weekend.
I will keep everyone updated.
