I have a dual battery set up and want to know if a 4 gauge battery cable would be appropriate for racing. What would be the prefer size cable for a nine second car.

Other than the BIG welding cable to the starter, I just run regular old standard size parts store stuff.....not sure what size it is but it`s been working/charging fine for many years.

I usually run 1 or 1/0 wire to the starter.

I also run multiple grounds off of the motor to the frame and firewall and two in the back for each battery

The distance between the 2 batteries is the important
thing for the wire size, if under 4' a standard
battery cable is fine. If you dont know you will
be wiring them in paralell, + to + and - to -, this
will stay 12 volt but with greater cranking power.
I weld bolts to the chassis or frame for my ground
points, both in the rear(by each battery in your case)
and up front rear the engine(your using the chassis/frame
as the ground to the battery. Will you be running a alt

My next question would be .... why the dual batteries,
do you have a problem starting. I know alot of guys
use the dual batteries because they dont use a alt
but if you are... why carry the extra weight, unless
its helping the weight transfer

Wahoo! I ran over to AirGas down the road. They had 4 pre-packaged 25' 1Ga Heavy Duty Welding cable sitting off to the side. The best thing about it is that it is American made! It is "Radnor" brand, rated for 105 degrees Celsius (221 degrees fahrenheit)...

Only because the car was set-up for two batterys; however, I don't have to go with dual battery, per your infor and now can save weight and $$$$. Thanks, 72 Demon 528ci Hemi 14 to 1 comp.
