Appears that the camshaft that i have in my Cuda has flattened a couple of lobes that is affecting two cylinders. I'm all ticked off about that happening, and has pushed me over the edge, in fixing the engine, or selling the whole damm car as is condition. If i decide to fix this thing, can anyone recommend to me a hydraulic roller camshaft that i can live with, power and performance wise. Presently the cam in the engine is either a Mopar Performance, street hemi grind, or the ".484" cam. I really don't remember as it's been quite a number of years that it's been in the engine. Anyway, the engine is a 71 440, .30 oversize with 6bbl. carburetion. 3:55 8 3/4 Automatic. Used to run consistant 13.20's at 108 mph with that combination. Can anyone recommend a ROLLER cam that will equal that performance, or a 12.90's. I'm sick and tired of flat cams, when i owned my 71 Hemi GTX 4 speed car, and now with my 71 Cuda. With the poor quality of todays oils, with the zinc taken out, i wan't a roller cam, and be done with it, if and when i fix it. Anyone's thoughts and comments. Appreciate it.

Ya, i know, that's what got me so bummed out about this whole mess. When i had the hemi, it did a number on one of the cylinder bores, when it flattened that cam. Jim V.

Look at the Hughes grinds....mine revs to 6800 (where I set the shift point, it'll rev higher) with no issues at all....revs fast, just like a solid roller. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jd8GeXYYkKUAllegedly they're ground by Bullet and are Inverse Flank on a small base circle, they work VERY WELL and they have much more aggressive @.050 and @ .200 numbers than the comps. I run the Crane Lifters, I think they're stronger/a little better built and they'll allow somewhat higher revs than the comps.

To do a complete conversion to a roller are we talking around $1300-$1400? Sounds like for non extreme valvespring pressures the Crane ductile iron rocker arms provide durability are a bargain at around $200. From there it goes Crane Gold rollers for $300 then Harlands for $500 and then Comps for $700? I know alot of guys whod like to switch but the cost delays it. My brother went mild hyd roller (240deg @.050) 3 years ago after always running flat tappet hyds and solids. Says he will never go back to flats.
Keep old mopars alive.

I built a 451 sixpack with a crane hydraulic roller cam for a resto project and never used the engine. I am going to use it for another project now and need to upgrade to a solid cam....... I figured it would work just about perfectly with a sixpack intake and be a nice upgrade over a stock style cam..... It is part #689521 and a lift of .509int/.528ex with duration at .050 of 222/230 Shoot me a pm if interested... TBF

I'm about 2 weeks away from firing up my 440 roller motor for my Sig car. I went with Comps starting retro hyd roller cam which is the XR274hr. The specs are: lift .538int/.534ex, dur @ .050 .224int/.230ex, 106' centerline with 110' lobe seperation. The advertised rpm range for this cam is 1,800 to 5,800. By the time I got done buying the cam, Comp magnum rockers, Comp retro hyd roller lifters, the timing set, new pushrods and the bronze geared oilpump drive I figure I spent just north of $1,700. The rest of the combo is 440 +.030, Diamond pistons with 440Source rods and Stealth heads at zero deck (10.0 to 1). A six pack with Promax prepped carbs and a full balance job. I also wiped a cam and am fed up with playing the "oil game".

Comp has some hyd roller cams in the catalog as well as drop in lifters. I think Crane also has retrofit hyd roller cams for BB Mopar engines. One of the smaller Comp hyd roller cams should do the trick, either the XR274 or the XR280.
I have heard that Crane is going out of business.
