How big are we dreaming here? Pro stock or SS/AH car would be my choice.

An asphalt-looking racecar, that would run 9. teens. Have a Koleno aluminum block with B1 TS heads. It would look like an ARCA car but with wheelie bars, or not.

I've got a super nice 38 Ply 2 door touring sedan with a 440 in it 727 with a 4-link and a 9". Its a 3 seater now with the rear wheel tubs as the arm rest for the back seat... with a pair of 19x33 under the rear. I have a 8-71 blower for it but I'm not going cut my hood to make it fit... I might make a carbon hood for it and mount the blower... this is a pic from a few years ago

The problem with having a nice toy to drive on the street is ..
#1 .. People either try to run you in the ditch looking at you .
#2 going to shows bite ,its a soooo boring ..
I have a couple of both, prefer the drags atleast people are beating on the stuff ..best of both worlds , show it, race it
The lips of fools bring them strife, and their mouths invite a beating.Proverbs 18:6

I like that Valiant...I'd like something like that, or a '65 Barracuda, SB car, just a 12-second or slower plaything. The 10-second car is just too much to run by myself sometimes. My crew chief/guru has a really nice '71 Duster, orange with the big blackout hood treatment & stripes, that I've been lusting over for years. Someday I'd like to RB my '64 Savoy wagon for N/SS. No cooler drag car exists IMO than an SS/A Barracuda, though. Outside of when my car cards a new Best, or when it goes rounds, or racing friends, the most fun I've had at the drags was with a rented 15-second Stratus in the Import class, laughin' all the way downtrack.

Working fast as I can. As you see, I don't have a very big shop hehehe. Mark Artis up at Texas Thunder built my cage and rear suspension. This is more car than I have ever driven, so I will be bringing it up to Frisco for a good going over before I run it. Probably end up doing my first TnT passes up there.
I am doing all the tin work and rust repair on the floors, and let me tell you it is not easy.
You guys that do this for a living have my utmost and total respect. I have lots of blood, cussing, sweat, and money in this car. It is my dream car, and I cannot wait to run it.

Ya Know, we all sit around and dream, and it's tough to figure what would really get the juices flowing! I've brought home cars that I thought would be really cool, and then they just sit, because they don't really excite afterwards!
I've raced my Challenger for 10 years, and really enjoy it, but when I think of "Stepping up", two cars come to mind: A pro-Stock style Neon (in Mopar/Motown Missile style colors), or a C/M Chassied A/Gas style 33 Willy's.
My second car, I really like. The all steel, stock bodied, 62 Valiant. It's got tags and runs 10.80's with a smallblock. Thing is, I'm a big block guy all the way...but with the hassle NHRA is making it to run under 10.0, I'll probably just put aluminum heads on the small block, and try to make it more streetable, while running 10's.
Got a full chassied (ladder bar/A-arm) 65 Dart Gt in the back yard, An ex-SS(72,73,74,75 & 77 AHRA Record Holder) 69 Roadrunner in Oklahoma, that I may never get to, and I won't even start listing my Dad's, and My 3 brothers' projects!!! But we never stop thinking about "The Next One"!

I still love racing my existing car ('69 Dart). However, I have seen a bunch of late '80s-'90s Daytonas that make great drag race cars. It would have to be a certified chassis car, and if it could be street legal that would be great, but you asked about race cars.
It would have to have 9 second power, but I would consider tuning it back for 10.00 to avoid some of the hassle.

I'd build a stock eliminator car....
72 Duster 340
71 Road Runner 383 or 340
Right now,I'm seriously thinking about putting my Demon back on the street...10.5 440 with Eddy heads,296/557 cam 4.10 gear,29" tires...I've been looking at the new speedo and tach combos that Auto Meter has, along with other more street orientated parts.(mufflers, seats, wiring, wipers etc)I think I can have something that runs 11's easily and still drive down to Daytona and Gainesville on pump gas.I'll keep my Road Runner as my resto ride.

I would like to build a Demon, they make such good looking race cars.
I also wouldn't mind a fox body mustang. A very very fun car to own I miss my old one.

That one Diego posted would be pretty far up my list. Or a Pro Stock truck I think would be cool, or one of the current Stratus Pro Stockers, all this realizing that cost is not a factor. Actually just something lighter than what I have that can certify to 6.00 would be my goal. .

I really like my 68 Dart, but I would build a 63-65 B Body and run brackets and N/SS or a new 09 Challenger for Stock Eliminator if $$$ were no object. or an 09 Challenger with a few bolt ons and Race in Street Eliminator( can`t go faster than 11.50).

71-73 Dodge Colt with a moly cage for safty. A torque arm suspension. 2600 lbs with driver. 10.5x30" tire. Flat tappet 408 with ported eddy heads and reworked RAS iron rockers. Wide power band and peak power at at 6200. Powerglide with a 5000 stall and shift at 6400-6500. Pump gas with large radiator. E85 with smaller radiator. Two batterys with an alternator. Set it up to run 10.00 anywhere you go. Just for giggles make it street legal. Should be fun and low maintenence.
Getting old just means you were smarter than some and luckier than others.

If I was starting out from scratch, I'd want to build something like Jim's Dart (big-block A-body) made just enough street-legal to be able to drive it to the track (like my Challenger).
Oh, it would have to be able to wheelie like Jim's Dart, too!

You guy's may think I have lost my mind, but there is just somthing about a full tube chassis Chrysler Pacifica or Dodge Magnum with 14X32's and a 426+ ci smallblock stroker that make's me smile and tingle all over.

I'd still love to build a SS/GT style small block K-car. the 84-88's in a 2 dr. are the nicest looking, with the only addition being the 72-74 A-body snorkel scoop like I have on my 69 Dart. I'd stick with the small block, but a little stronger, say 10.0 to 10.3's at our elevation in a 2700-2800 lb. car.

A nostalgia altered, or nostalgia dragster. Something with a lot of oldschool cool factor. Then I'd detune my 330 a bit(no a lot, just a bit) so it was nicer on the street. As for shows, yes they are SO boring. I still go to one a year, so I don't forget why I drag race instead. Nicer crowd at the track too. For the most part anyway...

I have the car, but I dream of a big $$$ HEMI for it. It's legal to go 8.50's as it sits.Or a new Challenger with the new gen Hemi TT would be nice, or a SS/AA Barracuda, or a new Mopar P/S.HMMMM... I'll be checking my lotto numbers in a few minutes!

Dream = Build my 68 Dart into a SS/AH Stick car and be able to afford to run the whole series and test so much I wear it out.
Realistic if business picks up to where it ought to be = 93-03 Mustang SBF, Blue Thunder heads, Turbo, ATI glide, Drag radial.
Truthfully, to be competitive in either arena, it takes about the same dough.
Realistic = finish my 440 powered 68 Dart ( someday before I tip over for good) , which really is my favorite muscle car. Should run 10s easy, and be relatively streetable.
I'm Gumby dammit!

That one Diego posted would be pretty far up my list. Or a Pro Stock truck I think would be cool, or one of the current Stratus Pro Stockers, all this realizing that cost is not a factor. Actually just something lighter than what I have that can certify to 6.00 would be my goal. .
I agree, thats gotta be just about the coolest mopar there is..well that pro mod bird is extremely bad azz too!

I would love to build a Black 68 Dart for a stock front and rear suspension class that uses a Drag Radial and the class was naturally aspirated. It would be a similar build to my brothers Cuda, stripped, acid dipped, painted nice and built right. I love the factory look on small radials going low 9's. There is a class here on the west coast called "Modified Production" with the West Coast Hot Rod Association that I have my eye on. Or to make some people vomit... I would build a 99-04 Mustang stock front/rear suspension small radial tire car and put a small block Chrysler combo in it. Sorry guys, theres just too much front and rear suspension parts for these cars for cheaper that make them appealing to me. Plus I like the way they look. A Stage V Hemi would be cool in one to. I might be able to fool some guys into thinking its a Ford Mod Motor.
10.53 @ 125mph. 1.37 60 foot. Caltracs and Monoleafs, AFCO shocks.
Heads by INDIO MOTOR MACHINE; IMM. CP Pistons, PC Carbs.

Yup...you've lost it all right. But then...you never really had a whole lot to loose in the first place.
Thank's for letting the cat out of the bag Jim, now everybody know's that I am a couple frie's short of a happy meal.

For my future ride{s}, I have 2 cars in mind. One would be a full blown drag car and the other more of a street car that would be strip worthy. I'm not sure which would be which as of yet though. THATS what I've been trying to decide on since before I bought and built the Dak.. Car 1 is along the lines of SKR8PN's car or something VERY similar, maybe a '90-'91 Laser.. Car 2 is an early 60's Dart. Mainly '62. I'd love to own one of these and mini tub it with a big tire and slam it, and have be the darkest shade of purple I could find..kinda like this Both would be big blocks as I have a 400 and a 383 sitting, but looking for more. Not sure if I'd go with a turbo and/or efi throttle body set up or keep it carbed..

I would love to do something to my wagon, a tt small block that would fit under the hood.... streetable but going in the 8's on a 10.5 or D/R
Otherwise B1 CUDA's car exactly the way it is Silver/Black. That car to me is about as good as it gets.
