For comparison sake I had a 390 LA engine in this car before. It had 2 points less compression, 11:1, a similar sized solid flat tappet. And heads that went 280@.600
That combo went 10.75@123 on pump gas.

2 points more compression, 75 more CFM of head flow at .600 and some corn juice fueling it. How much ET is that worth??? Hopefully enough haha.

Car is only legal to 10.00 as it sits....

Don't normally drop in on the GIII page, so I had missed this until now. Looks like a great build, License & more cage work may be in your future. Cant wait to see the Red Car under your shoe again, D!

Pistons finally showed up last week so got the block bored and honed to size.

Owner of the shop was happy we used the torque plate, he checked it after finishing with a bore gauge and noted it moves about .0008 with the plate not bolted down.

Will begin our mock up next week.

Good luck on the build, looking forward to see how it runs
Be nice to know someone hear in the NW that's figuring out all the tricks to get one of these going!!

Looking good!!!
One question?
Would it wise to deburr the top of the piston? They LOOK like they have shape edges.

They look sharper in the picture than real life, but i'll definitely be going over everything.

Thanks for the idea!

They do look nice, but I agree also. You can't go wrong making sure everything is deburred, and smooth. Less chance for detonation. Looking forward to hearing how it runs. I hope it goes exactly what you want. I think it will.

That piston looks like detonation city, as well as blocked flame travel and crevice volume up the wazoo. Would it not have been better to mill the heads some and get a much smoother dome shape even if it still ended up a tad less compression?

As for polishing pistons tops I use 1000 grit also and wet it but not with water but WD-40, it seems to clog less.

I guess I should elaborate on the detonation, those ridges beside the exhaust valve look like the worst offenders, they are gonna get real hot real fast as well as blocking flow of the last little bit of exhaust stroke and that will reduce scavenging. I would eliminate them all together. Then open up the spark plug divots for more access for the flame to travel to all surfaces faster and easier then put a big radius on everything else except above the top ring land obviously. I bet you will make more power and reliability even if it costs 1/2 point compression.

Yea I just decided to drop in over here because the new Gen III Hemi's really impress me and yours sounds like its gonna be a very nasty running build. up Good luck as it sounds like you will hit 10.0's or better to me. Ron

I would have gotten ceramic coatings on the pistons...oil shedding on the bottom, heat reflective on top and anti scuff on the sides

We did some mock up this past weekend.

Piston to Valve
.075 intake
.115 exhaust

My Apaches are 71.5 CC

Compression appears to be 13.5:1 based on our calculations, should work fine on E85.
