a 383 was an available option in that truck. So putting in a 440 isn't too far off the restoration aspect of your skill set.
Truck probably has an 8 3/4 in it anyway so that should be ok. Don't know what it has for a trans, but if it's a stick then it'll be the NP435 and that will handle the 440, with the right bell housing of course.
They say there are no such thing as a stupid question. They say there is always the exception that proves the rule. Don't be the exception.

I have a 65 D100 /6 3 speed on column 8&3/4. this is a hyd clutch setup. I have BB OE mtr mts for it and it takes a front sump pan and I am going to Iowa in several hours to pickup a granny 4 sp/hyd clutch BB bellhousing complete setup for it. If going with a 727 there is a bolt in OE crossmember available and speedway mtrs has aftermarket crossmembers that slip in to a bolt in end piece on each side for a pretty easy fab. I believe your truck needs a REAR sump BB pan. I have one for you & the pickup I believe is still with it.

I was thinking of using the truck forum but there is so much knowledge in the General Q&A, I thought I'd give this a shot.
The truck is a 67 actually. He brought it over yesterday. 8 3/4 rear like SupeCuda said so that's good. It's an original slant six, auto with the shifter on the dash - which I believe is a cable setup straight back to the trans?
I would assume a driveshaft would have to be made for it when going with BB and 727?
It is a manual steering, drum brake truck. He asked me yesterday to make it into a power steering, disc brake setup. Man.... I have some 68-73 power steering gears in my shop, would those work? I have a 70 A-body power steering pump as well and was wondering about running that.
The Disc Brake mod.... I really don't know where to start there...
Rapid Robert, if you have that pan and pickup and it will also work on a 67, I would be happy to make a deal with you on them. Thanks for the offer.

Good Sweptline site http://www.sweptline.org/forums/index.phpPower steering is a challenge on these trucks. The factory setup used an assist cylinder with a control valve incorporated into the drag link. Hard to find, prone to leaks and costly and difficult to rebuild. There used to be a couple of kits that used either a Ford or Toyota 4x4 box but I think they're out of production. Scarebird has a bracket kit to put discs on the straight axle. https://scarebird.com/index.php?route=product/product&path=64&product_id=117Some guys swap the cab onto a 73-93 frame which will solve the problem but lots of work. Another way is to just use the 73-93 front clip. If I was doing one I would use an 04 and up cop spec Crown Vic clip. This gets you rack and pinion, big brakes and a suspension that is designed for a heavier vehicle that needs to handle well. Kevin

Yeah me too as I have a '65 and a rear sump on the shelf & if I got it straight (somewhere I recently read it) that I need to get a front sump for my 440 swap into it. if it does take a rear sumper I'm happy

Yeah first we gotta find out which sump we both need (65 D100 here) & let me check if I have the pickup with it, I thought I did but let me check (too many projects going on at the same time OCD)

You def need rear sump pan, pickup and dip stick. I made my motor mounts but you can use factory ones if you can find. I have a picture, but can't seem to find how to add attachments?

Just to clarify, my 64 truck has Rod Weimer mustang 2 style front K frame and suspension, requiring any front sump pan to be converted to rear. If the truck still has solid axle, there may be room for front sump on BB engines.

CPP makes a bolt in power steering kit. Scarebird and a few other sources have a disc brake kit. You will probably have room to use either a front or rear sump pan. They were all front originally.

I found mine today & it is a front sump, not sure if any of the several pickups I have is the right one for it. If it turns out you need the front sumper (& I dont) then I will mock em up & see if one of em is the correct one for that front sump pan (I'm drilled/tapped to 1/2 NPT so I wouldn't need/use an OE front sump pickup IF I have one). 65 D100 451
