Subject matter is a 2007250 4WD CTD.

Just got back from a 500 mile run and noticed I have an excessive amout of brake dust on the driver side front. My concern is the pads are hanging up or the caliper piston is not disengaging. Anyone else have a problem with this? I'll be taking it to the shop on Monday to have a look.

Yes over and over. My 06 1500 just had the front wheel bearing done and rotor because it got so hot the last time it hung, it warped the rotor. It took about four months before the wheel bearing went but I am expecting that was the cause of the premature failure.

Had one hang on the rear as well and it took out the rear axle seal on the passenger side.

Both times the brake caliper was warrantied but none of the other damage was.

I have gotten in a habit now spring and fall to pull them off put some anti seize on the two stainless rods.

Pop it off run some sand paper in them and on the rods then silver anti seize and your off.

Antiseize on brake parts is evil. It WILL make the rubber seals and bushings for the pins swell and makes things stick worse.

Use caliper lube (siicone based)

Backyard mechanics that did antiseize have paid me well to fix their problems.

What rubber seals? The boots on the pins?

I wouldn't use sand paper on the pins. Cleaners, fine steel wool etc. don't want any scratches on them. use a good caliber lube. I always clean the slides good. if u do your own work, a lot of new pads new to be ground down so they slide free when installed or they hang up.hope u get fixed

Yes the boots on the pins, many vehicles have small bushings for the pins that will swell and stick the pins.
Mule is right that sometimes pads need the backing clearanced. Also rust buildup on the support brackets need cleaned off.

I have had really good luck since I started using anti-seize on the pins. I have had more problems with the stock lube then a light coat of anti-seize.

I after market vented rotor HD, one front wheel bearing, Set of pads front and back, rear brake rotor aftermarket vented HD, and rear axle seal.

The aftermarket vented rotors are built so well they should not warp but you run long distances with a hung caliper its not long dinking parts.

To each their own. I am not in the business of changing parts all the time.

Stock lube is too sparse IMHO.

Corrosion is a big deal in my area. Not yet set and salt, but the brine they spray is plain evil to anything metal. Keeping the brine out of moving parts is paramount to keeping things working right.

With properly lubed and cleaned slides my pplow truck hasn't needed brake attention in 3 years.
