You will need the bellhousing with the right size opening for the bearing retainer on your trans. The later the trans, the larger the retainer got.

one of my friends converted the 3 on a tree to a 4 on a tree and used a pto pull to activate reverse---it was pretty cool---kept the car looking original..

Only /6 bell housings will work. Not sure if they had both patterns ( 3&4 speed ) I'll check mine tomorrow. Got 64, 70 and 72. Do you have a trans yet? If so what year?

No they do not as far as I know. There were slant sixes made with 4 speeds but the bell housings are a bit tough to find.

The '70's bellhousings had multiple patterns, but the big thing is the hole for the bearing retainer. If you find a housing from an OD trans you can use a spacer ring for the smaller retainers.

The early 4 speed housings are tough to find.

Checked my three bells, none had holes for the four speed. 64 and 70 are 3 on the tree, 72 in the floor, synchronized. 70-72 a-body's, 64 b-body.

Probably the easiest to find will be a '73 and up A/F body OD bellhousing. I have one laying around.
