I'm switching from chrome to stock valve covers I bought a long time ago. I test fit the gasket on the passenger side cover and the gasket seems to be a good 1/8" or 3/16" too long on one side. The cover seems fairly straight. Should I just cut this much out of the gasket before glueing it to the cover? What the best stuff to use, Permatex blue?

I use permetex blue, only on the valve cover side, nothing on the engine side.

You shouldn't have to alter the gasket. You should be able to glue the gasket into the cover and the gasket will stay in where in place when installed. Just make sure the ends are inside the cover when you glue it

As far as the sealant, I prefer Right Stuff gasket maker, made by permatex, item# 85224

You can get it at NAPA, their part number is 7653016.

Its not cheap.....

I used to care but....... things have changed
