Great project! Is it just me or does the passenger door look to be a different color than the rest of the car? It looks like your making good progress. Post some more pics if you have them. You can never show too many pictures.

Your right, the passengers door was hit at one time before I bought it. After we striped the paint you could see the bad job the body shop did. I'm currently waiting for AMD to come out with there door skins.

I don't believe so, I bought the 10" drums from a local Auto supplier in town.
Looks very tricky!

Those quarters are looking good on there!
It took a lot of time getting the Goodmark to fit. They put new AMD quarters on the challenger next to mine, The bodyman said they fit really nice.

Hi Dale, the R/T is looking good! I'll have to direct Collin S. to this thread so he can drool over the progress. He spotted the car where it sat in the first picture several years ago and bugged the guy to sell it to him. He was pretty shocked when he drove by one day and it was gone I let him know where it went and that it would be done right so that calmed him down a bit. He was pretty bummed.

Hi Doug, I was really fortunate to get it back. The guy I gave it to 26 years ago really did not want to part with it, but he realized he was not going to get the time to restore it and he knew the sentimental value it meant to me, plus I had to show him pictures of the cuda’s restoration. When it’s finished I’ll let him take it for a ride.

Very nice. I do love 71 340 Challengers! Do you have the jack bracket that is spot welded on the top of the D/S wheel house? If not, I just got a nice repro from Wilson Productions.
What's your build date?
Keep those pics coming!
Thanks for the info, I have the original jack brackets which I'll use. The build date was March 71. Hopefully by fall it will be painted and I can assemble over the winter.

Incredible progress. Looks fantastic. Just a few weeks ago, I was out looking for some parts. Saw a car in a garage that could have been your cars twin. IIRC, it was a 340 car too with rear wing from factory. Keep the pics coming. Great motivation for those of us who are not as far along as you are. Joe

Looks awesome. How well did the door skins look and fit? Do you have the correct "DODGE" trunk emblem? I'm trying to locate a vendor selling them.

Your car looks friggin amazing!! At least you had the insight to keep it so long! Your bodyword looks great, can I ask who is doing it?
Thanks, actually I had poor insight, I gave it away in the early 80's, was fortuate to get it back in 2007 from the same gentleman that I gave it to.
The bodyshop is called Prairiefire in Consort Alberta.

No we did do the floors, it would of been easier to use the one piece floor plan, but I did not want to replace the hump as it has factory numbers stamped in it, plus it was in good shape. The drivers side was rusted right through. The rear needed replacing and the passenger side was not to bad.

The car's looking great. It's amazing how nice that color looks when fresh. Keep the pictures coming.
Yes it is, I just got it dyno'd, we'll finish painting and detailing it before its installed.

Awesome read. I LOVE the gold/black combo. My buddies 72 charger rallye is like that and I can't wait to see it together.
A question though on the 340...are those the correct manifolds for 71? I always thought the 340 manifolds were more swept and header like. Maybe those were from an earlier year.
Again cool build...keep it up!

Thanks I didn't realize that. They don't look that much different than the small block log manifolds. Interesting.

awesome ride. I am also having a 71 done, but mine is only to nice driver caliber and mine will be a clone. my car had a similar gold on it when I got it. It was a repaint from the eighties so I am not even sure it was a mopar color. Good luck with yours it looks great.

Dennis
The only advice I have is make sure its sealed good. The first time we sealed it with the kit we found a gap on the drivers side center of the window, we could run a piece of paper through it. We ran additional sealant around the entire window. The Chrome is the orginal chrome we had repolished. The window was supplied by AMD and the chrome clips are aftermarket.

Having a problem with the left Goodmark inner fender apron. The shelf where the battery tray sits is not flat, when you tighten the tray in place, its 1/2" higher on the inside. Its to bad that this was not noticed before paint. You can't really see it until you install the battery. If we level the tray the battery hits the hood, not sure the best way to fix this. . Heads up to anybody else installing Goodmark inner aprons. Not sure if the AMD have the same problem.
would it help to move those ,what look like bolt clips to the outside of the inner fender. Looks to me like they are gonna cause the tray to set higher on that side. just a thought.

It's been a while since I've checked in with your progress. It's really coming along nicely. That's a shame about the battery tray, hopefully you were able to come up with a good solution. Your attention to detail is really great and shows in the work you are doing. Just curious, did you have your gas tank in or out when you were installing the engine/trans? I had mine out when I did my car but can't recall if I will have clearance between the gas tank and floor when the front of the car is lifted.

Have you figured out what to do with the battery tray yet? I looked at mine and it looks to be the same way. I havn't put a battery on it to check though.
Right now we're leaning towards adding a 1/2" to the battery tray bracket and oblonging the tray bolt hole where it secures to the rad support. This will lift the battery a 1/2". It will clear the hood and be level. This is the easiest solution right now without doing major work. Were holding off doing this and working on other things, just in case we come across a better solution. This can be the last thing we do anyways.

Why not just put a couple body shims on the lower cross bracket? I bet that would raise it up with no serious modding.
we tried that but when looking at it from the passengerside the shims are noticeable.
