My 14 year old plastic grill has had a few million bugs pressured washed off of it over the years. The paint started coming off, I thought I could pickup a new one at the dealer for 197 bucks and not have to deal with painting it. But when I looked at the new one, it was just grey plastic and no paint. The parts guys swear they come that way and body builders paint them? I don't know, mine was painted with a stencil and pretty sloppy, looks factory to me?

So I said screw it I'm not paying 200 bucks and still have to paint it. So I repainted mine with lacquer paint I have for my challengers. I used DIA 9388 black which is the interior black used on challengers,(dash and more).

Lot's of tape got used. Sanded the whole thing with 400 and water, then used a scuff pad, chess cloth and air pressure right before paint. Did it out in the driveway outside. The original black was not all that bad, but up against fresh silver it would look bad, so I painted it first, it's the hard part.

The argent silver will get done today, I did the black yesterday in between many other projects and I didn't get back to the silver, plus it rained for while too. Fresh black accents. Luv this black, it always looks so nice after it dries, it's the black used on dashes, steering columns and much more. I have used it on exterior stuff many times too.

I shot it this morning before the sun even got on it. Then screwed up and tried to take the tape off too early and ripped some the fresh paint off. Luckily not a big deal with lacquer,PIA that I did it. Let it dry and lightly scuff padded the 3 areas and repainted it a second time...in the sun...let it dry, DUH.
Still wet paint in this picture, it always looks uneven, until it drys. Luv this paint also, so unique.

Done, ready to go back on the truck, just painted the screw heads.

The silver is 3960 silver poly right from the factory body manual that is used on rally wheels and more. I have sprayed a lot of it over the years. Has lot's of metallic in it and looks good on my grill in the sun.

Thanks for looking at my Mopar themed grill. grin
