A '68 Charger R/T (VIN starts with XS29) doesn't have the VIN tagged to the body; the fender tag, core support and trunk stampings are the VON (Vehicle Order Number) sometimes called the SO (Shipping Order) number. The only stampings that will match the dash VIN are the engine block and trans if stamped at all. (Subject for a different discussion)

The engine stamping and tranny stamping will be on the rear upper bellhousing area (near oil pressure switch/sending unit) and they should be next to eachother, IF they are stamped at all. Not at bottom of block and tranny case like '69 and up FYI.
