When working on the stripped trans pan bolt in the 65 Barracuda, I found this clip in the bottom of the transmission pan. Does anyone know where it might go and how bad a thing might this be?

Thanks, Joe

looks like the clip that holds the park rod to the valve body. either yours is off or it is an extra?

Thanks for taking a look and giving me your thoughts. I will take a look and see if I can figure out where it goes and if it is an "extra" or not.

Thanks again.

The governor also uses this type of clips, but I don't know if that could get into the oil pan from the output shaft...

IIRC the spring loaded shuttle valves use a clip about that size.

comparing the size of the clip to the hand that's holding it, I would say parking rod clip, unless he has really, really small hand's, the one on the govenor is quite a bit smaller than that one, I believe the stem thru the govenor is approx. 1/8 dia.

that should be a cable tranny. i'm betting the c-clip fits the little cable connector that attaches to the valve body. cable tranny's don't have the park rod that runs up to the valve body. page john kunkel, he'll know!

Doesnt the governor use an internal snap ring? I would say park rod also but im not familiar with the pushbutton trannys.

there isn't any park connection inside the main case of a push button trans. i've taken those little c-clips off before on my 65 trans.

Thanks for the advice. This is not a push button tranny. It is floor shift.

i think the only difference on a 65 floor shift tranny vs a push button is the rooster comb for the gear selector at the valve body. if its a 65 trans then its probably the c-clip for the cable connector.

Common e-clips:
Left is the '64-'65 shift cable adapter which is .025" thick
Second from left is the governor which is .042" thick
Second from right is the external throttle shaft
Far right is the '66-on Park rod.

Thanks John. Mine measures 5/16 so it appears to be the Shift Cable Adapter clip. I have a service manual and will try to determine the location and if this is an extra or a missing one.

Thanks for taking time to post the photo and to all of you for your input. It is greatly appreciated.

The part on the left is the adapter that uses an e-clip retainer. I suppose it's possible that it could remain in place without the clip, the part is visible with the pan removed.
