Hi all,
I purchased a 39-47 Dodge truck cab a few months ago. Last night I saw a 96 extended cab Dakota that would be a great doner for my 39 cab project.

As I'm looking at the old cab, I'm thinking things might be a bit tight for my big fat body. Since there are no floors in my cab, I was thinking about extending the 39 cab and putting it on the extended cab 96 floor pan (provided its still good). I put my 48 Plymouth coupe body shell on a Dakota floor pan and have been driving it for 4 years, this is something I can do.

I happen to have a standard cab 93 Dakota here I can take my measurements off of, but I really have no idea how much longer the extended cab is then the standard cab.

If someone can get me a measurement from the back of the front door to the the back of the cab, that would help tremendously. I would also like to know if the width of the extended cab is the same at the back as it is at the rear edge of the doors.
I'll let you all know how I will move forward on this project. Gene

Thank you Cheeto. Now I can do some measuring and make a decision. Gene

I did a short bed Dakota for my Plymouth Pick Up and it worked out great. A long bed or extended cab would work but the bed would need to be extended.

I have a 91 long box, standard cab Dakota, 2 wheel drive truck as a doner. The 47 is a cab with doors, nose, hood, and box sides. I also have a pair of big truck front fenders. The 47 cab is about 5" shorter (and several inches more narrow) then the standard Dakota cab, at the center.

At this point, I'm hoping to pull the Dakota cab off the frame soon, then I will set the 47 Cab on the frame to make a decision. I am contemplating stretching the 47 cab 12" to accommodate my 260 lbs, 6'1", old, not so flexible body. The cab will probably be channeled low enough to cover the frame. I can split the cab right behind the back edge of the doors, and add my 12" there. I will probably add a quarter window to the side panels. I will split the roof at the crown and add the 12" at the highest point in the roof line. The Dakota extended cab is 19" longer then the standard cab, I don't want to add 19" to the 47 cab, so I will likely fabricate new floor pans rather then to try to adapt Dakota floor pans.

the box sides I have for the 47 truck, are 6 1/2' sides. I will likely cut the Dakota box sides off, and shorten the box floor to fit the 47 sides. I would like the 47 box to be wide enough to lay a 48" wide piece of plywood flat on the floor, the Dakota box floor will work, but I will need to add a piece in both sides of about 2" to the floor where the Dakota wheel wells were. I don't have a box front or a tailgate for the 47 box, so I will probably trim & reuse the Dakota box front panel and fabricate a tailgate. Depending on how things go, much of this may be done by next spring.

I will probably buy a truck for the drive train, Mopar of course. It will be pretty tame by most of your standards, it will be driven year around, and reliability with decent gas mileage is more important the going fast. Gene
