Edelbrock BB heads vs. Mopar aluminum 452

If the only difference is the brand name and the plug angle, which is more racer friendly when it comes to header clearance?

Any other issues? I know the cost difference is one.

That's really about it. If you want straight plugs, 452. If you want angle plugs, Edelbrock.

What headers are you going to use? That will tell the tale whether there will be any clearance problems or not.

The 452 is more racer friendly overall....however the clearance problems the angled plugs create are not THAT bad to work around, provided the headers aren't coated already.

What are the 452 aluminum heads? Are they the ones being offered by Pro Max? Does anyone have any experience with them? I run factory 452's on my road runner. They're race ported with oversized valves. We did them over 10 years ago for a N/SS motor. I think we had close to $1500 into these heads with machining, new valves and springs, and the port work. Hind sight being 20/20 we should have opted for the Eddy's (They weren't available at that time). If for no other reason...40 pounds off the nose helps a ton. Tom

The "452" is an aluminum head offered thru Mopar Performance. It is part number P5153524. Its made by Edelbrock for Mopar and is basically the same as Edelbrock's RPM head, with the exception of the spark plug angle... the 452's have a straight plug. They also add some more cost to it because it has a Mopar logo on it.

I run the aluminum 452's on my 440.The one thing I mentioned before to someone is when they "straightened" the plug angle out,the plug hangs further into the chamber. They should have left more material on the gasket seat to make up for it.Might not be an issue for some, but even with an Eddy head specific dome, the plug relief won't clear.

The MP '452' head works pretty well, especially if you get the CNC ported version that Mancini Racing sells. Check out the March 2009 Mopar Muscle article. 680 hp with a small street roller in my 505 motor with those heads and a Super Victor intake.

I think with more compression and a bigger cam those heads could be pushed up past 700 hp.

If anyone here has that combination maybe they can say, or if you're willing to mock up and correct whatever clearance problems might exist before bolting it together the angle plugs would work.

Other than that, for simplicity's sake the two sets of Hooker headers I've used seem a little more geared towards straight plugs. On the 1 7/8 set two tubes needed modification to work with the angle plugs, on the 2" set they didn't need much of anything. I've never used the part number you have before.

Been told tti's are a slam dunk with either head, but never tried them personally.

the convertible has the Hooker Super Comp 1-7/8 not coated headers with a 440 based 511" motor with Modern CNC "452" heads.

there are no clearance issues at all with the headers and I just finished installing a 4spd today and clears everything great. plenty of room. The 511ci needs bigger heads though lol

My son runs Eddy's on his 400 Dart and he uses the older CPPA headers which are like TTI's I believe. His plug wires fit great with no issue's and plenty of room. Ron
