The stud where the battery wire hooks up to in the back of the alternator snapped and I might need to get an Alternator. Enough where I can't put on the nut and tighten it. I was looking at the Powermaster Nostagia 75 amp ones. Anybody use these? Are they any good? I believe the stock ones are 50 amp. Is it ok to use a 75 amp?

I have run the 75 amp Powermaster and many others also. Good alternator if your electric needs are not much beyond original. More reliable/durable vs a parts store reman. It should bolt in and work.

It would be a really good idea to bypass the bulkhead connector and maybe increase size of the charge wire. The bulkhead is a trouble spot even with the OE alternator. As minimum, inspect, clean and grease the bulkhead connectors that carry charge current and clean/tighten ammeter connections.

I installed the round back recently and it works great. Tag on the back said it pushed 66 amps at idle. These are rated 90 amps now.

Did 1970 come with a round back or square back?

I had a round back dual field on my '70 Bee when I bought it 30 years ago. Pics in the FSM for '70 Charger and Coronet are round backs.

Thanks. My alternator is still good but the bottom bolt in the back snapped and I don't have enough threads to run the nuts, washers, and wire.

Try opening it up and see if you can replace the stud. Should be a 1/4"-20.
Is this what you need to fix it? Don't have my FSM nearby to check.

That's the one. I never opened up an alternator before. I do have the FSM though.

Says it's for '60-'71 so must be round back. There are a few up on eBay but that's the cheapest.
I was wondering why the stud has a capacitor attached. Found the answer on page 1-3 Accessories. Never knew that.
