Me again,

Im trying to build my bracket/street car with a day two/stealth look to it and Ive even got the race block looking oem and ground a few thing off so the unsuspecting ford of chevy guy wont think any different.

So I mounted the DR-s on the rims and since ive got the long studs ive got room for as much as a 1/8 or so plate on each side of the rim but im not fully sure how to make this "sandwich" work.

Id almost think if I welded them it might make it easy for them to crack? Or I could in a triangle pattend drill and use some pressed in hardened pins. My wheel centers would cover it all, but I know when its time to get real busy and hook, the oem rims and acorns wont last or be safe.

Thanks!

I wouldn't use any type of spacer. I just have Nitto DR on ralley rims and short hi strength studs.

Not really clear what you are trying to accomplish.

I wasnt going to use them for actual spacing but to try to add strength to the center and lesson the chance of egg shaping the lug holes.

Ive a 73 SD455 pontiac with drag radials and it ate up a set of nos rims last summer so I replaced the rims and studs this spring and that was with a mild vert and 3:42 gears. This setup will launch about 5200 off the brake with a 4:56 gear.

Its been hard to determine a actual tq number on the acorns as to whats too loose and whats going to dig into the rims so I so ive just been getting them pretty tight.

Still not exactly sure what I'm trying to understand here. You're saying you ruined a set of rims?? OEM rims that are steel.... and you ruined them by the studs egg-shaping the lug-holes Are you sure about this? That must be some serious torque and hook!!!

I run 15x7 Steelies with 255/60-15 ET Street Radials. Dr. Diff axles with short hardened studs & conical style lugs... Never had an issue. But admittedly, my car is not a beast.

Im probably worried over something that wont happen again, but yea my pontiac runs pretty hard, a 73 SD455 T/A.

I also destroyed two turbo 400s and one carrier unit last summer. Its as strong as any mopar ive ever had and the only gm ive ever owned.

But it looks like im worried for not, just dont want to kill a set of new, old rims.

If you screwed up rims, it was because something else was wrong.

Maybe the quality of the material used or the thickness, which I think possibly might of been the problem.

So it looks like I will just run these and hope for the best.

GM cars use 7/16" studs. Mopars use 1/2".

and i have seen lug nuts for steel wheels that were 1" hex size instead of the mopar standard 3/4" hex. that should add more clamping force i would think, because of a greater contact area of the conical seat ?

Because of the 1/2" studs, I have always torqued to 100 ft/lbs.
