I posted this in the Question and Answer section but thought there might be a lot of Street/Strip guys here.

I've been running 3 1/2" wide wheels on the front of my Duster for 22 years on the street. In the past I've had 165SR15 Michelin and Goodyear radials. It's time for some new ones and am looking for something better. These usually look like they are flat since they really aren't designed for a V8 car, more like a Volkswagen Beetle. They don't seem to be producing them anymore.

Mickey Thompson has an 8-ply tire that says street or drag use made for 3,000 pounds or heavier. My Duster is about 3,200 with me in it. 26" diameter is good also. Has anyone used these?

Any other suggestions are appreciated.
Thanks,
Dave

I've heard of some Toyo's and Nexen's, but went to their websites and came up with nothing.

Check the Coker Tire website. They have vintage appearing tires (bias plys) that look great and are very inexpensive (less than 100 dollars each). I run a pair of Firestone ribbed edge tires on my road runner. They look exactly like the old Drag 500's, but don't have the logo. Coker also supplies the BF Goodrich Silvertowns. We have run them for years. They work fine, but will follow the curvature of the road if your suspension bushings aren't up to snuff.

I think the old muscle cars look great with a taller tire. The Mickey Thompson Sportsman fronts are pretty short as are the VW radials you speak of.

Oh yeah...Coker also offers Pro Trac fronts. My buddy runs them on the front of his 440 six pack Challenger and they work/look great. Tom

Tom, great suggestions. I had looked at Cokers website a little while ago, they sell the Michelin XZX tires I used to run, they must have bought the molds. They are $151 each. I'll have to look for their other tires.

I found these on Coker Tire, the whitewall could be painted and turned to the inside. Since they are BFG it would match my rear tires.

for an A-body couldn't you find a 195/75/15? I used a set of 205/75/15's on a 15x4 for the front of my Charger.

Depends on front end alignment. Usually 25" or so is not a problem. I've gone to 27 and now to 28" and I love the look of the tall ones. Really sets the car off and it rides a lot smoother on the street. Just got to trim the front of the fender opening.

I agree. A tall tire makes the car's look. It takes a while to break the beam with 29's, but they look cool. We run them on Frustration and on my street Road Runner. Nose high is cool.

With the wheel not having any inward offset and the car sitting low, the 26" tires have rubbed a time or two while turning into a sloped parking area from a flat street. I really have to be careful about height and width of tire.
Thanks for the suggestions so far.

Mickey thompson s/r radials come in 24 and 26 heights, they have a different looking style of tread. We use them with drag radials on the back and it makes for a very nice handling car for street driving.

We used a 21575D15 tire on the Demon which was a same size as the Moroso 7.10/15 we use now.Worked great.

Were the mickeys the bias sportsmans or the s/r radials?
