Its about $100 an hour here, thats with all the gadgets and unlimited changes. I think we can get 6 hours unlimited for like $450 I believe. 3 pulls is $65 no A/F

Thanks!

I was just checking, I got a price of $600.00 with our fuel. So it's in the ball park. I just wanted to check and see if that was the going rate.

Thanks again

Engine or chassis dyno?

It costs me about $100 an hour on chassis dyno with a discount for a long session.
$400 a day on engine dyno.

We charge $650 a day to dyno.... included in that is paying for 3 employees (myself, the dyno operator, & one other SDSS employee) for an entire day to work on setting up engine/tune/remove engine.....

I don't really allow customer to do much at all to motor themselves that day if they are there, they sit back & watch.

The cost of that piece of equipment (new state of art dyno)& the special room it is ran in, water system etc is over $100K... that's also big part of what you're paying for. For that kind of $ it should be on nice well kept dyno in a nice test cell.

If you're dynoing at a hole in wall place with no built in dyno test cell etc. on a 20+ year old homemade/hodgepodge dyno I'd expect cost to be less. I've seen lots of videos on youtube of some pretty ratty looking dynos/cells/rooms that I know I would'nt want to test a motor on/in & would be embarrased to charge $650 to dyno on.

I payed 800.00 dollars for three break in pulls and two power pulls.
The timing was set once valves lashed twice, plugs changed once and one jet change.
Oh and the motor was built at this shop.

the last time I used Vrbancic Bros. DTS dyno in SO CA it was $500.00 a day plus fuel, that was in early 2005 The local Pro power dyno in Madras,OR is $500.00 a day also. I do all my own tuning and parts changing so that prtobally doesn't make it cheaper. it' my motor and I want to work on it my way, not pay someone else to do it their way My feel on a tight lash is ultra tight to some and real tight to other guys that build motors, we all have are own ways and feel

I have Scott Koffel build all of my engines and I could not be happier! My 408 with cast iron old 2.02/1.60 (slightly worked) heads with a .630 roller cam has ran a best of a 9.77 @ 140mph in my 1970 Dart.

a little over a year ago, my wife let me do a an engine dyno day at kammer&kammer in dayton Oh. they're also mopar racers!

full dyno day, with A/F, tuning, etc. I think the day was $300? or was it $500? I don't remember now...they'll do 3 chassis pulls for $100, maybe $300 was chassis dyno with tuning, and $500 was for an engine dyno day. I really can't remember now--mostly because my out the door bill was about $1200! yea, the wife wasn't too happy about that, but their quoted price over the phone did not include fuel, oil, gaskets, etc. so that was probably another $100-150 or so added on, and then my Eddy 750 carb w/electric choke gave up 90hp to a holley 750HP (no choke), both were OOTB, so that was another $650 added in! plus a lift plate so I could quit using my chains bolted to the engine to lift it...

definitly worth the price though. it was a day to myself, no work, no family, just me and my hobby, hanging out with a bunch of guys who build engines for a living. I was in heaven, walking around their shop checking out various projects they had going on, picking their brains about engine building, etc.

I'd do it again, and WILL do it again when Iget the motor built for my Cuda. I just hope I can get to it in this lifetime before they either forget about me or all retire!

plus, I can say that I know for sure, exactly what the power level of my engine is, and I won't be your "typical GM guy" who just adds the numbers from the catalog together to claim that their 8.0:1 SBC with mild cam, intake, and headers is making 500 Hp.

We charge 450.00 if we build it, or 550.00 for off the street customer.

I paid $400. plus fuel etc. Amongst other things I think breaking the engine in on the dyno, may save the $350 ceramic coating on my headers. This and the ability to monitor closely all the vitals , during break in made the cost well worth it to me.
I also enjoyed being with "like minded" people for the day.

We charge 88.00$ per hour if we build the engine or 110.00per hour for outside jobs. Our Superflow 600 is equiped with wideband o2 to monitor each individual cylinder, the only correct way to evaluate manifold distribution and firing orders.

Hey Guys,

Thanks for all the reply’s. You've helped me out a lot. I'm not getting the best price in town, but nothing worth while is cheap, but at least I'm not getting screwed either.
We're not looking to try to find every ounce of HP we can fine. I'm just looking to find the fuel curve to for jetting and I want to know the Peak Tq and HP to eliminate a lot of guess work, and maybe try a couple of different things. $600.00 is still cheaper than wasting half the season, burning up a set of tires and entry fees + fuel, only to chase ghosts.

Again thanks for your help

Kevin
