8G195598 this is the VIN number of the car it came from, 8=1968 G=St. Louis, MO assembly plant, the next six digits are the sequence number. wave

Ok, the trans was built on Dec 14, when would of the car been built? It's a inland shifter car, and no traces of ever having a reverse light.

The transmission s were built ahead of the cars. It would have been stamped with the VIN right before it went into the car.

There is no way to know how long after the transmission was assembled & teh car build completed.

About all you can do is to start a spreadsheet with dates of all the date coded parts on it that you know to be original, the car would have been built sometime after the last dated part you find.

A likely SPD would be January 10th, 1968.

Seeking:

1969 St. Louis plant VINs, SPD, and VONs.
Over 2,000 thanks to you!

With a Jan 10th build date won't the car have a Hurst shifter? It has no sign of ever having a reverse light on the dash, and no head rests. I checked the K-frame for a date code, it's badly pitted so no luck there.

He said it was a LIKELY build date, do you have the engine ?

Head rests were an option in 68 so why does that matter ?

running up my post count some more .
