OK, I had to drop $600 on a new pair of slicks. The truck sits covered, but not inside. What's the best way to care for them. ?
While we're at it, what do you guys run for air pressure - 32x14x15 M/T's 14:1 588 with a glide and brake.
Incidentally, 32's make for a FULL Dakota wheelwell !!!

Keep the sun off ALL rubber products... pressure... that
will be based on the rear weight of the car

Ozone kills tires, the sun and dirt are the two biggest sources with DIRT being number one. Also not letting the car sit on the tires for long periods is a plus. As for air pressure as much as the car will tolerate.

Thanks, I think I'm going to fab up a stand to hold the rear off the concrete and buy some thick black construction bags & bag them.

Keep them away from electric motors.

Make as many passes in a year then throw away or sell. But I agree, ozone, sitting, sun and dirt not good. Where you're at I don't think they would dry out. Moisture is probably bad on everything else.

Leaving them outside will cut the life expectancy a bunch. If you have to leave it out, I would suggest taking them off and storing them indoors. Lot of money to let them rot sitting outside.

If the results don't match the theory, change the theory.

You're probably right, I kept the old set - maybe I can dig up a pair of cheap wheels to mount them on - wonder how the wife will feel about slicks in the corner of the bedroom...

Avoid any smoke. (seems obvious, but figured I'd mention it)Smoke totally ruined both front and rear tires on my race car when my kid accidentally started a smoldering fire in the garage. They were all cracked severely like very old weather checked tires. As for pressure, I would try 9 psi for starters, and watch to see how much they wrap up on launch.

Smoke ? - really, I would have never thought of that... Thanks for the air pressure - I was making test hits at 10 psi, so I was close.

Aspen that is good info, thanks... I think I'm going to take my back wheels off the wagon and mount my old slicks so I can store my new ones inside like they say.
Also gives me an excuse to buy new back wheels for the wagon !

Aging - my guess is due mainly to
1. oxidation including ozone and sunlight
2. leaching out of plasticizing compounds.

In a perfect world, the tires would be filled with nitrogen and be stored in a cool dark place in an airtight container filled with nitrogen.

Actually this wouldn't be that difficult to do, except I wouldn't want that in my bedroom either.

(This from a guy who uses pairs of American Racing truck wheels as nightstands.)

R.
