What are people doing to their manifold studs and nuts to prevent corrosion?

Im installing manifolds with new hardware and was curious to what you guys do.

I usually switch the studs/hardware out to Stainless Steel and use Copper Never-Seize (1800 degree rating)on the threads


And I use (long) brass manifold nuts on the pipe to flange nuts

Thanks Mike, but I was interested in what people are doing to their original hardware IE: RPM or painting

what look are you going for with the manifolds , blasted bare metal , or painted the way it rolled off the assembly line ?

Im not doing the factory procedure because its my cruiser convertible but was just trying to keep the nuts and studs from rusting as long as possible.

Correct? Then you better use factory bolts because the head markings will be wrong if you dont. .02

I just paint the edge of the manifold where it butts up to the head ,,covering the hardware in engine color

ps, there are NO head markings of any kind on B/RB exhaust manifold to head hardware .

He said he wanted to see blue engines with manifolds painted ...

You can't see bolt head markings with the hood closed while doing the speed limit either ...

PLUS ... if you actually READ his question you would have seen that your answer has no bearing on the question ...

But just so you can un bunch your undies John (don't want to cause a rash ).....

Here's what I do. Nothing, clean them, install them, paint them like factory.

There are no brush on coatings like RPM that I am aware of that will withstand exhaust manifold temps enough to prevent rust on a plain steel part, Maybe Jet Hot or some type of ceramic coating but then what's the point? That said if you only drive the car sparingly in nice weather the cleaned and painted factory stuff will probably stay pretty nice for a long time. If you want better results then you'd likely need to replace them with aftermarket bolts made from a rust resistant metal.

FWIW I've had pretty good results by coating the bare steel studs and nuts with phosphoric acid based Rust Cure:

A coating does no perceptible etching as a dipping in acid would, but the Rust Cure bakes on and stays on for years and hundreds of heat cycles and the metal doesn't rust. And use the anti-seize.
