Anyone have experience with them or opinions on them in a daily driven 318 compared to the stock 2 barrel setup in MPG or power? Any parts (kits floats choke pull offs elec choke conversion kits) Where? I went and looked thru a phone book sized Holley catalog at the parts store, that does not mention these carbs even in the "parts" section; also the only number I can find starts with an "L" yet all the Holley carb numbers in the book started with an "R" when I went to look for a rebuild kit.
I am considering using one in a Magnum head conversion on my 83 D 250.. Have 2 of these carbs, that need gone thru; Daily driven, heavy truck, not "used" as a truck ~85% of the time, looking for "just that little bit" more power while retaining the same or (hopefully) better fuel mileage. Dead stock, unrebuilt shortblock; though with the Magnum heads I will be using 1.6 Magnum valve gear. (will "wake up" that stock 318 2 barrel cam, even if just a little)

The fan style boosters were known for getting plugged, once that happened the carb is pretty much junk...

I remember when they came out & were touted as a beneficial mileage addition that many of the circuits were geared specifically for increased mileage via better metering. a parts man years later opinionated that they were problematic that there was a design flaw(& this guy was pretty sharp, had alot of experience(as parts men go ) With that being said I have never used one or talked to anyone who has as they never were widespread for some reason but I would definitely use one if I had the opportunity

Yes. I have used one on my 68' Coronet with 318.
They get very good gas mileage. I used one from 79' till 84'. Then I changed it out for a Holley 500 CFM 2bbl.
The Economaster is very good on gas. I believe they are 300 or 350 CFM. Should have no trouble getting at least 20mpg or better on the highway with one of these. I had a lot of good luck with this carb. I still have it in a box.
I can't tell you the performance difference from the original Carter 2bbl carb. When I got the car in 79' the Holley Economaster was on it.
Set up right it will spin the tires but it will not pin you to the seat with the acceleration. It's just a gas mileage carb.
Borg Warner lists carburetor parts for Holley's and other carb brands. I actually have their parts book.

Thanks for the info; what are you gonna do with the one on your shelf? Direct fit for Mopar linkage? Most info I see is 450 CFM. Sounds like it'll be a help on my truck.

There is a NOS one on Ebay right now with $150 buy it now. 2 hours and 40 minutes to go.

It would make a nice slant carb. I think the seller can get kits.

I did'nt know they flowed 450 CFM. I don't think they flow that much. I could be wrong. They are a direct bolt-on to the throttle linkage and kick down linkage. I was planning on holding on to mine in case gas prices do that big jump again.

Popular Haotrodding did a Monte Carlo with one of these carbs, Edelbrock SP2P, and RV type cam back in the 70's. It was called "Project Econoperformer"

Did some checking. The 450 CFM Economasters are 4bbl carbs. 300-350 CFM are on the 2bbl carbs.

we installed alot of them back in the 70's. Most worked fine. But when they went south there was no fix for them. No kits available for them.

I know about the 4 barrel ones; both of these are 4 bbl econ's.

so kits are hard to come by? for what I have in them, if they are scrap no big deal.

I had a 79 Volare with the "Super Six" deal.I ordered a Holley Economaster for a 69 318 car and put the Holley on in place of the OEM Carter.HUGE difference in mileage and that car ran a lot better.I also tried the 4bbl version on my Lil Red Express, but went back to the TQ,as I liked the power I had with the TQ.
