I'm new to the board and new to numbers matching Mopar restorations. Last year I made the jump from brand C to the Mopar world. I found an almost barn find 66 Satellite Hemi 4 speed, all original down to the carbs and distributor and alternator and of course the engine trans and diff. If I can figure out how to post pictures I'll post some of those. I'm doing an engine compartment, interior, and mechanical restoration. The car was painted in the 90's and is very nice. Car is in awesome shape and just very untouched until now.

Very cool! Welcome to the site. If you're new to the world of Mopar, don't be afraid to ask questions if you are not sure. There is not much similar between Mopar and the other brands as far as how things were done, painted etc...
Keep the pictures coming.

how about radiator paint? What is the best and most accepted color and shade for an original restoration?

Call Bob at Glen-Ray, 715-551-3157. He can likely give you a good paint to use, he paints his restorations and they are very close to factory correct. The engine paint should be Race Hemi Orange, it appears you used Street Hemi Orange?

Really? Yep, it's Street Hemi Orange. And you're telling me it should be Race Hemi Orange? That's going to be a tough repaint! When did it change?

Yes, "Race Hemi Orange" is the correct color for that year Hemi. It gets confusing because the first time that Race Hemi Orange was used was in 1962 on the 413 Max Wedge engines, then continued on 1963, and 1964 426 Max Wedges. So, by all rights it should really be called "Max Wedge Orange".

In mid 1964 when the cross ram Race Hemis came out, they were also painted this same color. This color was used on Street Hemis from 1966-1968, (as well as 1968 Race Hemis, and on the 67 R/0 W/0 Hemis) it was also possibly used on Street Hemis into very early 1969.

"Street Hemi Orange" was first used in 1969 on Hemi engines continuing through 1971 and was also used on most other high performance 383, 440, and 340 Mopar engines for the next couple years.

Like any paint, there were slight variations over the years, batch to batch, plant to plant, etc. but there were really only two distinct shades of orange by design. Today these are generally referred to as "Race Hemi Orange" (a paler more pumpkin colored orange) and "Street Hemi Orange" (a much redder colored orange).

I don't know Scott. Look at the orange where the sun is hitting it. It might be the correct shade of Orange??? It doesn't look as dark as the typical Street Hemi color to me.

Welcome to the board!. I believe Scott is correct or the color in the picture is way off. Nice looking car you have there. Here is an engine shot of a 67 I'm working on.

Dan.

Ya, shucks....looks like a rookie mistake that is going to cost me a whole lot of work. I have to get the red out and the pumpkin in! Dang it!!! I will never live with it being the wrong color.

On the alternator adjustment bracket, does it go under the triangle or in front of it. Can you send me some more detailed shots of the engine please, Dan. Looks outstanding by the way!

Jeff

Don't forget, that area between the carbs should be bare aluminum, no paint
