Since there are a lot of posts telling Charlie and Eddie how to run their show, I thought I would go ahead and fish this creek, too!

My idea is for Q16, SP, Pro, and Sportsman. There are only four event weekends, so the suggestion would be to run a full race on both Saturday and Sunday. If Saturday is rained out, run for double points and money on Sunday. If Sunday is rained out, give Saturday's winners double points and money.

Of course, anyone who won on Saturday would be doing a rain dance, but this would help reduce the complications of carrying the event over.

Great idea, the IHRA has been doing double events. The racers are already there, go ahead and have 2 races, chances are you should get at least 1 race in each w/e.

Would this mean that each Chrysler Classic weekend would be double the cost now or am I reading this wrong?

Well, yes the cost would be more, just think of it as an 8-race series.

I like the idea of a Saturday and Sunday points race, but the "double the points" thing, I have an issue with that. With only 4 races, a rain-out on one of those days and double the points instead of a make-up race will lock in the points championship for the winner of the day that they raced. They should just refund the money or credit the money for the next event.
Considering the condition of the economy, 8 points races and the traveling expenses of 4 races will increase car count, which will be low due to the economy anyway. The heck with the high-dollar gambler's race on Friday night since there are only 12 cars in it anyway. Just run a normal gambler's race on Friday night. If there is a rain-out on Saturday or Sunday, just forget the points and move on.
If I remember correctly in B.C. Classic Events (i.e. Before Charlie) that is how the weekend was formatted.

This is just my opinion but, if you turn an already expensive weekend into a MORE expensive weekend car counts are gonna drop even more.

Most guys like myself just like to do some fun test and tuning, a $20 Gamblers race, and a full race on Sunday. The big buck Gamblers races need to go, they get hardly any cars show up to the lanes for it so everyone is just spectating.

I know several of you that race alot and win alot are gonna want 2 full races for the weekend but most guys are trying to cut costs right now. I didn't go to the Mopar Nats last year because of the hotel cost and right now I'm trying to get rid of the cost of race fuel, maybe E85 or water injection or less compression...............

I would rather see it like the IHRA bracket finals is now with the main event on Saturday. This way if you have rain on Sat it could be run on Sunday. I do not like the double entry/double race idea. I know gas is cheaper now but I know quite a few people who have had their hours cut or are layoffed. There is quite a few very reasonable entry (1-3 day events) and big purse races in this area that are cheaper and closer. After going to every event last year and watching it rain The Weather Channel is going to make a difference if I leave town or not.

I like the sound of this. The biggest expense we had last year was fuel to and from the events. With only 4 events, I think this is a good idea.

I just hope we can get some nice weather this year so we can actually race at the CC races. If gas stays under $2 I may try to hit all the events this year.

Im with ya PROSPORT...... I like gamblers races on friday and saturday night that only cost 20.00 bucks if you want to play.

If you dont want to spring for the 20 bux you still get some extra time trials.

On a two day event you would be lucky to get 2 time trials in.

anyway i go for fun and to see all you guys not chase points

I like it Cgall. I believe that they are already doing doubles at Pittsburg and Martin in 2009. My one good buddy in the know says that they are considering a double at Columbus also.
I realize that this would add some cost to each weekend. But, with only four weekends this year, it will still be cheaper than last year. The way I see it, it would only be anywhere from $50 to $80 more each weekend depending on your class, compared to entering a gamblers race. I know that is a lot of money to most, including me, but I hate rain outs just a much as others. If they did doubles and we got Saturday in instead of Sunday, at least we would get one points meet in and it wouldn't be a wasted weekend.

If the double race (Sat and Sun) format gets attention, consider this:

Entry 1 race on Sun (weekend pass) $70 ($10 discount) includes 2 time runs on Sat
Entry for 2 races (weekend pass) $70+$80 (promotor makes up for Sat discount with 2 entry fees, same payout on Sat and Sun)

That gives the hard core racers two races, but gives the casual racer a chance to come out without spending a lot of money.

As I recall, when they did a double points race, Sat was a lower entry fee/ lower payout. IIRC I think it was $110 for Sat and Sun for PRO. Not sure about the other classes.

I like that idea better than a "MOPARS VS THE WORLD" gamblers race.

Why not just get the racers to the track and let them decide? One price for any class, 50. bucks get you into any class, that should level out the field a little.Big money guys wont show as much then. It would give the weekend part time racer a little more track time.......Phill

Here is my opinion FWIW. I think that the Points race should be held on the first available day when weather cooperates. Race points Saturday and if rained out carry it till Sunday, if the event points get comleted on Saturday hold an all makes gamblers race on Sunday. This eliminates any MOPAR crowd that does not want to be around all makes(gives them the opportunity to leave) instead of having them mixed in the pits with ya. It also lets those that travel any kind of distance have the opportunity to head home early. With the economic situation as it is there is no good answer for every one person, but there are issues to consider with the current operation. I just hope that the season is clearly spelled out this year at the banquet and no new surpries loom around the corner.
