I'm working on assembling the front portion of my engine which includes alternator and power steering pump. My original power steering hose had a wrap of foam rubber to protect it from rubbing on the frame.
I purchased a replacement hose and found that it did not include this sleeve. Unfortunetly, the original piece was thrown out. I would like to duplicate the piece and I was wondering if anybody could give me a measurement of the wall thickness of the foam.
A picture is included just so you know what I'm talking about.

3/16" to 1/4" wall on the one in my shop. It varies a bit.

Hi Jim

Thanks for your help. I thought about giving you a call about this. I will measure the diameter of the hose when I get home tonight. I believe that the sleeve would be about 3.5-4.0 inches in length. I sent ratroaster a PM to see if he could check for me.

3 1/2" long. The hose measures a tad over 3/4". About 25/32" or .780. 3/4" ID foam should work and be a little snug on the hose.

Have some samples coming in the next day or two. Looks like the best option, though pricey is a silicon foam tube. It's 3/4"ID, 1/4"wall, looks like that old low tech foam sleeve, waterproof and tear resistant. I have some of that coming too.

I went out to do a test fitting of my power steering pressure hose last night and it looks like it isn't correct for my application. I found a NOS hose for sale that I'm going to purchase. I need to talk to seller to see if the sleeve comes with the NOS unit.
