Any tip or trick to installing the door window glass rivet. 1968 Barracuda if it makes any difference. Looks like you just smack it with a hammer...

Just push the pin in by hand or with some small pliers.

smaking it with a hammer and you will need more than another rivet

Pull out the pin first, then install the plug, then PUSH the pin back in...

Thanks... minivan... that worked. The pin and outside part are molded together. I had to break them apart. Then install it from the other side. Pretty easy actually.

Thanks gtx... First had to separate it (see above), it was a new replacement, how you described worked fine once the two pieces were separated. I had to use the big channel locks, it was a tight fit.

Yes - I did not think that was a good option either, especially since this is brand new glass with a significant lead time that ships with a truck freight surcharge. So when it looks like I might break something it is time to step back. So, being tired, frustrated, and a little baffled by something I thought was going to be easy I took a breather and put the question out to Moparts which has a collective IQ a bit higher than mine on my lonesome.

Thanks guys.

Picture of rivet as delivered and installed... blue is the one I removed. Insert has a pretty big difference in OD vs the ID of the plug, it has a pretty tight interference fit once it is in there. I doubt it will back out.

Did many of those back in the "day" when I did Auto glass for a living.. They are a breeze when you figure them out..ALOT easier than most of the metal "sliding" clips I cut my fingers on..
