This bronze 1969 Dodge Charger might look familiar to a few of you, not that it in itself is famous. Rather, it’s sadly pretty infamous as it has been a project car for two magazines over the course of a dozen years: once introduced early in this author’s career while as Mopar Muscle Magazine, and later while at Street Legal TV. At Mopar Muscle, the Charger was christened “Brazen” for its T7 Copper paint, and while at SLTV, we named it “Killer Kong” with hopes of installing a Gen II Hemi between the shock towers. Sadly, that wasn’t meant to be, and opportunity’s knock took yours truly to greener pastures.

Throughout that time, this particular B-Body has been caged, subframed, media blasted, primered, stripped bare, painted, reassembled, plumbed, wired, aligned, had its brakes bled, and even driven under its own power (although it still lacks registration. We’ll get right on that). But it is with some aplomb that we rebrand our ever-going project “Brazen” once more, much more so for its boldness as a street machine than its hue.

OK, time for some "crowd sourcing." Despite our best efforts (using a dual plane intake manifold, no carb spacer and a 1.5" drop-down air filter), we still have almost zero hood clearance. Worse of all, we're all but suffocating our 535ci stroker motor.

This has left us with the decision to give in and glass on a hood scoop. Here's the question: what kind of hood scoop should we use?

Frankly, we like the idea of a L023 Hemi hood scoop (similar to Hot Rod's "General Mayhem"). Oh, and a Chevy cowl hood is not an option. Seriously. Don't suggest it. Otherwise, give us your thoughts and try to provide a visual aid to back up your suggestion.

1967 R/0 W/0 Hemi scoop. They fit and look great on a 68-70 Charger and they are 100% bolt on. Originals were steel, most reproductions are fiberglass.

Great suggestion, Scott! We love Dick's Chargers - I only wish the hood scoops weren't so far set back. If only somebody made a flat hood (without the louvers), then the '67 scoop could move forward.

What suppliers make a quality hood and scoop?

Jim Kramer had the best glass scoops but he had supplier issues so I don't know his current deal, his were around $400.00. Domingo Cicirello (www.restorick.com) can get you a VERY accurate steel version, around $1,500.00
