Hey guys, I'm seriously thinking of getting a new 1500 w/diesel. Anyone have one, how do you like it, and does anyone offer a progamer for them yet?

You're already getting big power out of a 180 cubic inch engine, a Diesel at that. How much more can you tighten the screw?

Is the best forum.

There are a few that have blown up over there but I believe they're the minority.

I am trouble free in 1000 miles but others are reporting codes limp mode def and Dpf issues and long waits for parts.

Mileage for me is 22 mpg in mixed driving but some are reporting 30 on long road trips.

The diesel is heavier than the Hemi so you loose payload and towing. My crew cab 6'4 box is limited to 1004# so once my 260# is in there things get slim.

It rides fantastic but to new to really comment.

Ask away and I'll answer what I can.

Also there are tuners coming so check out the link.

Well, I did it! Bought my ECO on Friday. First new vehicle I've bought for myself in 25 years. This thing is hands down the best I've had in nearly 50 years of being licensed. Laramie, leather, heated/cooled seats Uconnect 8.4AN, remote start, pretty much loaded. Love, love, love this thing. Just might keep this 'til I die !!

if the Eco is anything like my 01 Cummins the mileage should increase once the motor is fully broken in. It took some 10k miles before the rings really seated. I was on a long trip when it happened and I literally watched the fuel mileage increase along the way. Since diesels turn at such low rpm's the break in time is somewhat longer than a gas motor.

Couldn't deal with the local dealer, so I drove 2 hrs away to get this truck. Plopped $25k down on the desk, signed all the papers, (got 0% financing), grabbed the keys, and after a quick run down on the new and different features of the truck, I drove it home. Easiest dealership experience I've ever had in 45 years of buying vehicles, new or used. In case anyone would like to know, I bought the truck at Hunter Dodge in Lancaster, CA. I would highly recommend these guys to anyone. Very easy, and very, very pleasant to deal with. I'm super satisfied.

I'm not totally sold on them yet.... I hated that engine when it was in the Liberty. Price out the oil change..... just so you're ready.

Pretty sure it's a different engine than the Liberty, they used a Mercedes diesel I think, 1500 uses a Fiat diesel

That's correct, the liberty used a 2.8L engine, been a long time, I think the emissions control scheme and something else I've forgotten made it less than desirable. The new EcoDiesel was developed for one of the European Cadillac but wasn't used, can't recall why. So far I've heard nothing but good about it.

For comparison, my '96 Cummins was 5.9L, 180 hp, 420 torque, my '01 is 245 hp, 505 torque, very similar power ratings at half the engine size. bow

Look at these Websites:

http://www.vmmotori.com/
http://www.dieselpowermag.com/tech/1208dp_banks_vm_motori_630t_v6_diesel_engine/

and find out about VM Motori and the Ram 1500 engine.
Since the article was written Fiat Group has bought the other half of VM Motori and now owns all of it.

In recent years the company has bounced around, from Chrysler to Detroit Diesel to Penske to General Motors plus Fiat Group to Fiat, to name a few.

The 2.8 four cylinder is a VM Motori engine, as is the 3.0 V6.

Yeah it's kind of funny the 3.0 diesel was supposed to be a Duramax diesel for GM's 1/2 tons originally, then 2008 happened and it was scrapped

Well, frankly, I'm not overly concerned who makes this motor. All I know initially is, I like this truck. Just took a trip to Sacramento last weekend to watch my nephew race, and this truck just floated down the road. Super quiet and very comfortable. Refilled the tank yesterday and calculated the mileage and to my great surprised, it returned 28.06 mpg!! 599 miles on 21.34 gallons of fuel. Recently installed a Bak flip hard tonneau cover, so mileage should improve slightly. My wife was very hesitant about my getting this new truck until I sat her in the heated front seat. Kept asking, "What's this, what's that". Turned on the seat heater on her side and she literally melted! Now all I need is some kind of massager for her and my troubles will be over! Actually, she's starting to like the truck the more she's in it. Far as I'm concerned, this is my best vehicle purchase ever, and I've had a lot of them.

VIM 3.0..... saw the engine in a 1500 3 years ago as some guys from the proving grounds stopped by on their testing.... still had the Jeep top cover when they were flogging it. I'm HOPING with the newer emission systems (DEF) that they will see less issues than the Liberty did. Not a lot of them out there, but so far I've replaced a NAC on a truck and a Jeep Grand Cherokee, but there's also a TSB out for that now.

So where did you buy it at, Lampe or? And was it a good deal?

Very cool! I too was trying long and hard to get a new Ram (but not the diesel). Came darn close, then it fell apart at the last minute (a 24 month lease which came with a lease-only rebate of $4250.00, then buy it out after the depreciation).

Decided to keep the old Dakota for truck duties and bought a new Chrysler 200.

So for now, I'll live vicariously thru others who own these fantastic trucks! smile

I've had the truck for 3 months now and am still excited about it. Took a trip to LA recently and returned 30.6 mpg. Gotta love that! This thing is so quiet, smooth, and down right comfy, I think I'll have myself buried in when I go! No problems with anything (yet). Had it at the dealer for computer update, other than that, it's an absolute dream. I encourage anyone thinking of a new truck to definitely check these out.

It had a Jeep cover on it because you can also get this engine in the Grand Cherokee - this VM 3.0L has nothing to do with whatever the old Grand Cherokee or Liberty had.

I assume this is a 2wd , not a 4x4 ??
