I have a factory AM radio in my 1980 D-150. When I purchased the truck a few years back, the radio never really worked correctly. The volume and tuner were VERY sensitive and you got more cracking and popping than stations.

I removed the radio as well as the gauge cluster a few days back. I swapped the amp gauge with volt gauge and bypassed the amp gauge. The guage cluster works well after install.

I took the covers off the radio and blew the dust out of the radio thinking that might be the problem with it. Also repaired a broken solder joint on the circuit board. Aftering reinstalling it, the tuner doesn't seem to do anything at all. Also, the volume almost needs to be all the way up to even hear static.

I've checked continuity at the antenna and it seems ok. Does anyone know what to check on these older radios or what might be the problem? If not, are these AM radios tough to find? I haven't had much luck locating a replacement so far.

ebay has some am/fm radios for sale. they are a straight bolt in deal, with an am radio. i even see an am/fm/cb radio for sale. you'd need a new antenna, but you do have options. the din and a half radio is the same, in a lot of different mopars, in the years immediately before, and after 1980. thumbs

Good luck finding an AM radio. Everyone I knew replaced them with AM/FM and threw the AM radios away, me included! I'll bet I tossed out over 100 of them over the years.
Around here, static and popping was the standard AM radio reception, that was why everyone went to AM/FM. Gene

Mine works. Works well too. Volume, tone and the preset buttons all good. Mounting tabs aren't broken either. Let me know if you want it.
