Hello,

I want to put an original dual snorkel air cleaner on my 74 newport.
The Newport hast two headlights on each side. But I have to replace them with others (german law).
So I thought: What if I only put one on each side (one with low and high beams) and put a hose from one snorkel to the other headlight hole.
That would be a 10 $ thing.
Is that a good idea? It would give the carburetor really fresh air and when I drive I have a "poor-mans-compressor". I would seal the air cleaner.
Is that totally stupid?
And would the fuel-air-mixture get lean when I drive faster?

Not stupid at all, did that years before on a 66 New Yorker with a TNT package, dual snorkel dual exh. and 3.23 gears.

Ran hoses from under the front valence to the snorkels and picked up 2 tenths and 2 MPH in the quarter to 15.3s at 92.

Pretty good for that behemoth.

Joe

P.S. I did re-jet the AFB a couple of sizes but I don't remember if I made the changes at the same time.

did you use an original dual snorkel air cleaner or a bigger one?
I just saw some pictures on google where people have massive hoses and air cleaners.

looks like I am going to make it happen.

The only problem is, that I cannot notice, if the mixture is getting lean, when it's only getting lean and higher speed.

since you are speaking of your exhaust. I also have a dual exhaust but the pipes are not connected. so every side of the engine has it's own exhaust. should I connect it?
