This is my first Charger I ever owned! Can't wait to get her road worthy! Was my wife's idea!
How cool is that!

Quick story...
driving these cars back in the day.
Getting my very Deserving - Drunk Driving Arrest in a 1969 Charger Friends car at 18 in 1973 -
Umm Ya, been there and done that!

I got the bite again 1n the late 90's buying a 72 Town & Country station wagon 440 built. That was fun! Also bought a 70 White Challenger. Small repairs lead me to wanting the jump on the wagon with the hot cuda's.

I've been restoring 70 - 71 cuda's ground up since 2000 - one in the garage now almost ready for paint. Basically I spend 2 - 3 years on them to then sell.

Knowing how hard it is to get attached and want to keep em.

This time my wife says, lets buy an inexpensive ride we can drive around in and keep while I spend the pain staking time on the cuda.

So my youngest son tells me how much he loves the T.V. show 'Burn Notice' with the 73 black charger.

My buy is just that, Triple Black TX9 Taged - Mostly original and complete. She now is being brought back to her glory days with Me as the third owner!

Second owners story is he bought her in 1983 when he was 18. Repairs of many new parts including engine swap from the 400 with a '71' 440 back in 1997. Drove her a dozen times for a year. Parked her in the back yard traveling for his job, she's been sitting ever since with 74141 miles on the clock.

Nice. My first car ever was a 72 SE, 400 car in 1974. I know they aren't a 71 R/T but I still like them.

Thanks -
I bet your 72 was nice!

This one is going to need allot of body work.

Small patch's needed on firewall, driver front floor left side, inner wheel wells,
parts of the lower rockers, passenger side quarter, both front fenders, doors need patch's, hood with trunk lid are rusty.

The best part is the interior is nice.

working out these bugs is a pain!

so far working on her when I can...

removed gas tank, cleaned out the sludge, re-coated it. installed new electric fuel pump.

rebuilt the holley carb.

removed the valve covers to sand blast and paint.

pulled intake removing hydrolic lifters cleaning them.

cleaned plugs re-gapping.
removed fan blade to install plastic shroud.

removed all 4 wheels, car would not move; brakes were rusted and locked up - all are cleaned now working.

wheel bearings grease looked like a rope substance it was so thick - now repacked.

trans pan removed - checking filter which was new fluid smelled fresh.

changed engine oil due to regulator problem of too much gas.

removed trans inspection cover, finding out the torque convertor bolts were all out and rubbing against flywheel - now are tight.

passenger door hinge was frozen - now oiled working.

power steering pump changed out, old one not working. both new lines added.

-----------------------------------------------
project now is the gear box I'm changing due to old one leaking and not working.

then on to the electrics, no horns, no blinkers, one headlight works, no fan speeds, no speedo, no fuel gauge, no wipers.

that goes to say No Driver either!@%*^

Actually I took her out for the first time in the driveway on Sunday. Brought the temp up full to 180' about 12 mins( this separate temp gauge works with the oil pressure and tach )

Radiator leaking now on top with a split. Bought JB Weld - was good until the third run, a second split was leaking.

New radiator is now on order -

Then decided to hit the side streets. Was tough without the power steering! All was good for about 3 mins - then the fuel regulator was acting up.

Stalled out - no gas...

its time to call the pit crew for help!

I call the wife...I go - honey; she goes - ok where are you; knowing that from in the past experience, things are out of check.

Two old guys out on the street - see me grab a gas can from the wife's car ( thinking maybe I'm out of gas? ) They are laughing it up!

probably the best laugh they had in years -

Nice car. I actually just picked up a triple black '74 rallye in March myself that just got stripped down. Only a tag, no build sheets found, yet.

Motor is stuck even after soaking for ~4 months so time to pull it apart and see what is ailing it. I'll watch your progress.

This car has two fender tags? Not many options.

I was lucky in finding my build sheet under the hump of front bench seat. Was hard to remove, in about 4 pieces now - didn't want to pull that big long seat.

I did find another sheet under the rear seat - NOT TO THIS CAR! I will post it up when I get time.

A friend of mine had a frozen engine before. He pulled the crank and then hit a wood 4 x 4 on the top of the pistons breaking most of em free.

good luck with that

So far my fun of driving is only three quick rides around the block.

First two stalled due to regular problem, and a bent hose.

Third ride for about 10 mins, just have shell shock of not wanting to stall out - to be stranded again!

It had a holly blue electric pump installed.
So I thought I would just stay with that system?

Glad this long winter is over. Started working on her 3 weeks ago. First started with R&R of the gas tank. Since it was leaking on the driveway, decided to change it out.

Then I got rid of the electric fuel pump last week. Going to stock fuel pump. Just got that in yesterday afternoon.

Soon will gas her up in hope that all will be good!
