She has a 5.2 v8 throttle body injected. She runs great but does not like to idle. If I hold the gas a tad bit, she will idle. Are there any adjustments to make? I see a bolt I can twist, but there's an electrical connector behind it. Do I have to do anything special? (Special procedure?)

Also, where can I find a wiring diagram? They wired in a kill switch, but the fuel pump will still pump with key off/kill switch on.

There's more, but I don't want to get overwhelmed haha.

Oh, and is the speedo cable driven or is there a VSS? Check engine light popped on. Could be the speedo? I haven't had a chance to check. Something tells me cable driven.....

If that bolt you can twist you are talking about goes into a plastic box it's pretty common for those to go bad but usually the switch that tells it the throttle is touching that bolt. Something else should be making it adjust the idle speed.

Yeah that's what I'm talking about. The bolt screws into a black box looking thing.

I did run codes though. I got this info off of allpar, so hopefully it's close enough.
11 No ignition reference signal detected during cranking (bad Hall effect) OR loss of camshaft sensor (and, for cars with crankshaft sensors — which does not include the 2.2/2.5 — timing belt skipped a tooth or loss of crankshaft sensor). See note #8 below.
12 Battery or computer recently disconnected (will occur on most cars most of the time, it indicates a low / missing battery happened in the last 50 key starts. Don't worry about it. — Tom Wand)

16* Loss of battery voltage detected with engine running

I'm more worried about the ignition reference signal. Is there a camshaft sensor or crankshaft sensor? The truck runs awesome, just takes a second to start (4-5 cranks) but runs smooth as butter (why I bought it. Everything else can be fixed)

Also, this truck has been wire hacked! I looked everywhere under and around this truck and did not see what I am seeing now. Maybe if I "unhack" it, it

I believe the bolt you can twist with the electrical connection would be either a high idle solenoid to kick up idle speed when the AC is on OR a solenoid to slow the closing of the throttle when you let off the gas suddenly (emissions thing)

Ok. Made a bit of progress.

Undid the hack job of wiring. Found a melted fusible link, fixed it to how I think it goes. I still need a wiring diagram.

Wired how it looks like it goes, the truck runs even better. No need for the toggle switch haha.

Got the truck to fire up with the key, got the radio working (after swapping to a different/better radio)

Only thing now is the gas gauge does not work now.

Also is throwing code 12 (battery disconnected within last 50 key cycles) still and code 15 (no vehicle speed/distance input) which I'm betting is the non functioning speedometer. It is cable driven, and the head was zip tied together. I'm hoping that a new cable fixes it.

I never thought I'd be messing with a TBI truck

Any idea why the instrument lights light up when the brakes are applied? I've been over/under/through this thing MULTIPLE times and cannot find a crossed wire in what appears to be the lighting wiring.

One step forward 10 back! Haha

Ok, so after a long day of junkyarding, I got a good speedometer cable, speedo sensor, and speedo/gauge cluster (incase the speedometer gauge was bad itself). Installed the cable, sensor and new cluster with the old speedo installed, and I now have an operational speedometer.

My question now is: I'm still getting code 15. The check engine light is not coming on while driving, but when I pull the codes, it's there. How can I clear the codes? I want to pull the battery cable but I'm pretty sure it'll trip code 12(?) which is "battery disconnected during last 50 key cycles".

Oh an what year grilles/core supports/fenders are interchangeable? I need a core support and drivers fender/inner fender. There are no good 1988's in the junkyards, only a 92, 85, and 91(I believe). I pulled a headlight bezel off the 85, but it is totally different.

Thanks in advance smile

I believe the 91 support should swap with yours, if I remember correctly 86-91 were the same

Does the truck have a trailer plug? My wagon has one. One of the times I actually used it, the wiring on the trailer was bad, so, each time I hit the brakes, my dome light came on.... shock The harness on the trailer was pinched between its fender and frame rubbing the wiring bare.

Maybe something similar is going on with yours (minus the trailer)? Something not spliced together correctly, or a spliced joint failing?

Just a WAG.....

Grille/core support is '81-85, '86-90, and '91-93.

Headlight positioning changes each time, though the amounts are differing it is noticeable.

Fenders/inner fenders, pretty much same '81-93.

Bumpers also have year splits, tho they will all swap around, just need the right brackets. I run a '72-81 style on my '85. Narrower, cleaner.

It does have trailer wiring but it's disconnected. Looks like the drivers front tire blew and since there was an accident on that side, the wiring is fubard. Near as I can tell, everything is connected correctly. I'm thinking of just buying a whole new harness and dropping it in. That may be the best/easiest solution.

Make sure all the bulbs are the correct ones. Sounds like an 1156 is in
a 1157 hole.
