That Ramcharger could be a Mexican sold 81 to 95. The truck was in Mexico, they produced Ramchargers for sale in Mexico through 95 using what we (in the USA) consider 81-93 sheet metal.

From the paint and headlight positions, it looks to be a 91 to 95 produced.

Are you sure that isn't a Dana 44?

44 and 60 covers are very similar in appearance. Physical inspection would be needed to tell which it has.

He said D60. I've never heard of a 44 in the rear either though. Hard to say if its factory too.
Yes its 5.5" bolt pattern.

From the looks of the line routing, I would say factory....

As a mechanical designer, I can tell you, car companies do very different things for vehicles sold outside the USA.

I did read a Mexican brochure for a late 60s or early-70s Sweptline era truck. It said Dana 44 for the rear axle so I know they used the Dana 44 from the factory then. I still think that one might be a 44 and not a 60.

I know very well what Dana 60s look like and what the 9.25s look like, but I have never seen one with a notch that captures the PS E-Brake cable like the one in that picture. The picture that I have submitted is of the Dana 60-2 in my shop and except for the raised numbers "60-2" cast in the top of the case there is no notch. The only way to really prove anything is to get the BOM numbers off the back of the PS side axle tube and go to the Dana/Spicer books for application. Until someone does that we are all just spinning our wheels

Or pull the cover and measure the ring gear.

Strange looking front center housing for sure(parking brake cable catch).
Measure it from the inside edge of the shock to the outer edge of the diff cover on each side..looking at the construction of the center section and size of axle tubes..looks to big to be a 44..I would bet money its a D60.

A question was asked about the strength diff between a 9.25 and a D60 over at RCC,and here was the first response..

" Which D60, the common full floating version or the Mexican DM semi floating D60?"

you see that picture of the green ramcharger---that is a mexican ramcharger and it has a 9.25-----and plenty of guys mistake the 9.25 for a dana 60----

Actually, it has a D44 under the rear. I've spent enough time under it to know.

As for the photos, I am having a difficult time telling the difference only seeing half of it. A simple measurement across the cover will tell the tale. Dana made some really odd axles, including a D60=2 for industrial use that was popping up on eBay a few years back with a centered diff and high 5 series gears. Guy had stacks of them, all brand new. A lot of Jeep guys bought them.

~EDIT~

Here is one of the eBay D60-2 housings.

RCC has quite a bit of chatter about "Fabled Mexican RC D60s, it appears. It it does exist, it would be a good match for my 2wd '88 RC...

And that is exactly why I built my Dana 60-2 for my '87 D100...my '86 2wd Ramcharger has a Dana 60 with the 3.125" axle tubes from a '74 D200 and all the other aftermarket stuff for drag racing. The Dana 60-2 came to me stock with 35 spline axles, PowerLock carrier, 4.10 gears, 12" drum brakes, Set 7 tapered wheel bearings (no PS adjuster) and a 5 on 5.5" bolt pattern. All the bearings were new, the brakes were fresh and I gave $400.00 for it in 2010.

BTW all the 60s I have seen have the number 60 cast in the lower right web in the case next to the cover plate. No need to measure anything.

You haven't looked at nearly enough, then. Because they don't all have it.

apologies to 76dodgeboy----i just brought home a 2000 mexican ramcharger---it does indeed have a dana 60 rear with the 5 on 5.5 lugs and spicer is stamped across the back of the cover with 1 inch tall characters--and the provision for a pinion snubber on the casting....

The "browse" option is below your "post" box when you are replying. It says "post options" and to the right "File Manager" Click on File manager and the browse option pops up.
