Has anyone tried to replace a HydroVac brake booster with a HydroBoost system?

I must need to get out more, I've never heard of a hydrovac system. I recently switched from a regular vacuum power brake booster to hydroboost in my '89 Jeep, but since I'm ignorant to hydrovac, I don't know how much of that swap info is applicable to your swap.

Hydroboost is what passes for power brakes on larger trucks with hydraulic brakes.

Here is a 1750 IH.

We replaced the booster on our 66 Loadstar 1600 last year. Bought one from Napa

Why? You should be able to fix what you have v/s making a conversion.

I haven't been able to find a rebuild kit for the HydroVac, only reman units. If you have a source of parts, I'd be interested. thumbs

As to the reman units, from what I've read in a number of forums the quality is so hit and miss that it's a real crap shoot if one would work. There was one poster who went through three of the Cardone units (all under warranty) before he got one that worked. shruggy

I guess I have not heard anyone say that they have had problems. All the boosters we have bought over the years for heavy trucks came from Napa with no issues... We have not tried to rebuild any of them. Just replaced them.

I would agree with that if we are talking years ago. The last one I personally replaced was 20 years ago and it worked fine. The point that the posters I referred to were making is that these units have been out of production for so long that a reman you get now may be on its second or third rebuild and is getting to the point that a rebuild isn't effective anymore. That's why I was trying to get a kit to rebuild the original I have (or think I have).

I understand what your saying. But as I said above we just put one on our IH last year, no problems. A lot of the farm trucks in this area sit for months at a time. They rot out on the inside and being that they are on the frame behind the cab get so rusty on the outside that i dont think you would get it all apart and back together again. But then again you may have a very clean truck...

My truck appears to be an old ND county truck. So it's no jewel! If I implied that all remans are bad, that wasn't what I meant. What I should have said is that, from the discussions I've read, the functionality is spotty. You may get a reman that works fine but the odds are you won't. At least that's how I'm reading them.
