the guy claims it to be a posi and I would think that it is since it is in a 4x4.

that means nothing , the sure grip was an option , not std .

as far as the comment about it being the same as a car rear , its not , no place for the pinion snubber to mount , its mine for a race car wit ha ladder bar or 4 link rear suspension though

if you cut the tube and install 8.75 housing ends, can you use the 8.75 axels in the D60?

the axle ends are basicly the same between the dana and the 8 3/4 , as they use the same axle bearings .

the difference between the 2 is an 8 3/4 has the same length axles side to side , a dana does not , if you are using a spool its doable as there is no thrust block and you have to use green bearings , but not so with a differential .

I need to get the lay person scoop on this, I know of alot of dodge trucks in a junky up in Maine

old chevy and ford pickups used the dana 60 also .

if you're thinking of getting a load for resale don't waste you time unless they are almost free , since strange and moser both sell NEW housings with the snubber mounts ready to bolt in for a little more than an original that needs another 500 plus for a rebuild its made scrounging for a truck rear not as fruitful as it used to be .

I disagree. I built my dana for 700 bucks and change. That's a LOT less than the new strange unit.

I just picked one up at the Garlits show for $150 - full floater, no axles or drums, with 4.10 gears for $150.00...
I missed one sunday morning for less money (reduced from saturday) with 3.23 or so gears and a suregrip . I would have bought the second one even though I already had the first one.
I'm planning on putting it in the Dakota

does it have the snubber provision so it can be used in a leaf sprung car ?

if you can do most of the work yourself then it can be alot cheaper , but if you have to farm it out just the labor to rebuild it is 250 plus in my area .

Come on, John ! You don't need to have a pinion snubber when there is stuff like Cal Tracs and CE Slide A Links that work much better

I know that a guy was selling empty 60 housings at Norwalk for $100-$150 or more each. He had 10 and sold all of them

I'd have been happy if it only cost $700 to modify around my area. I had $500 in labor... plus new axles, ends, perches, trac loc, and caltracs. The donor came out of a '88 E250 ferd van.

I bought mine from a kid at work that was scrapping a truck for $50.00,, I plan on using the axel's from the 8 3/4 (35 spline)I purchased the housing end's from Jeg's ($60.00) I will have about $600.00 in R@P, spool, bearing and shim kit, plus $75.00 for a local guy to set it up and show me how to do it myself,, a fairly good chunk of change, but I can cross that off my "weakest link" list.
